So now all baggage you bring with you has to be labelled 'carry on', so you won't be allowed liquids, razors, and other stuff in any of your baggage. Carry it to the plane yourself, we'll put it in the hold, but it's still carry on, mofo. They really are positioning themselves as a bus company these days...

I'll take it if the prices go down for me :)

I would like elaboration on this statement

"ban on all passenger check-in luggage while offering unlimited carry-on baggage for free"

Unlimited Carry on luggage. Mis-quote by the media I would imagine but Im open to contradiction.

If it doesn't fit in the cabin it goes in the hold on the runway .. I believe... *

    Do they X-ray hold baggage?

I thought they did since 9/11 ? They do in most countries anyway - Ireland? Not sure.

I would hope they do, but I doubt there will be facilities beside the plane in the rain beside the 'priority boarders'.

    This sounds crazy stuff.

They can't stop razor blades cause you can buy them after going through security checks so would defeat the purpose.

I'm confused. If you can buy razors the other side of security now then surely cabin baggage only makes absolutely no difference to this policy or security wise?

    What am I missing Trampas?

I thought there would have been an Aer Lingus type option, where you can check in online but there's a place you can bring check in luggage. Strange, bad move. Doesn't effect me thankfully as I only fly short distances with ryanair.

No doubt, this is their next move

(although it will cost O'Leary some cash upfront, so maybe he won't go for it)

I would prefer to stand on short haul flights like the likes of Paris or London. Anything further than 1 1/2 would drive me nuts though.

Razors are allowed through security now, so that won't be a problem. You can still bring liquids under 100ml. If they really will allow a bigger hand-luggage size, then I think it sounds like a great idea.

Imagine standing there on a wet miserable day before you depart and standing there waiting for your luggage after arrival in the rain. No Thanks. This will also kill the 25 min turnaround if implemented.

Wouldn't that mean chaos for the security people who'd have to check much bigger bags?

I'd say it means you can't bring your much bigger bags. Look at the scanners in any airport. They won't take the bigger bags. I think this would mean you can take as many small bags as you want. Which means longer queues at the security screening machines.

Then in 2 or three years he'd probably start charging for the second bag again. :D

Saying "unlimited carry-on baggage for free, subject to airport regulations" is smart. If the queues at the scanners became huge the airports would have to either pay the cost for extra scanners or limit passengers to one or two carry on bags. Then we'd have our fearless crusader O'Leary telling us how everything is the airports fault as usual. It might even end up with different airports having different allowances so you might be able to fly out with three bags but come back through an airport that has tighter restrictions.

For example. http://www.manchester-airport-guide.co.uk/security.html allows one piece of hand luggage and a laptop bag counts as your one item.
