Is there much noise from the ps3?

I have an xbox 360 and the noise from it is unbearable. I'm thinking of getting a ps3 instead. Is there much noise from the ps3?

Also, where is a good shop to trade in the xbox? Do any of the shops have a good deal on the ps3 at the moment or anything like that?

    Thank you

Very little noise, in fact almost silent until its in use for a good while. Even when the fan kicks in, its not bad.

After about half hour usage, I've noticed my PS3 can kick in quite a loud fan (either that, or the existing fans push a higher rpm). Never a problem over winter months, but during these past humid days, it would seem the PS3 doesn't like the chronic heat in my sitting room!

Yeah have to agree. I have the 360 & PS3 and the PS3 is barely noticeable even when the fans are running!

    Have both.

360 fan - even with new chip does my head in.
My PS3 (had first) - v v quiet - you rarely notice it unless you listen for it.

Best of luck - hope you enjoy.

And with the PS3 the fan very rarely kicks in unless the room temperature is high or the PS3 isn't in an open space.

It's not just the fan on the PS3 that is more quiet, but also the disc drive. The 360 makes an awful lot of noise spinning up and playing a disc, whereas the PS3 is much more quiet. I avoid this with games by installing them to my 360's hard drive, but you can't do that with films in case you use your 360 for playing DVDs.

I find the PS3 is usually as quiet as my laptop and never as noisy as my 360 or my PC.

I have both and the PS3 is silent compared to the 360.

Overall if I had to give one of them away, it would be the Xbox.

The 360's noise output is unbelievable. You'll be shocked at how quiet the PS3 is. It's the difference between a huge diesel-powered bus and a small electric car in terms of noise pollution.

Same as mine since the good weather started. Only happens when running a disc though. Other than that is a lot less noisy than my bro's 360.

I'm going to be honest, you shouldn't really be playing PS3 on days like we've been having go out and get a nice tan :D

To descibe the PS3 fan as loud means you must never have owned a 360. The PS3 is whisper quiet. Also, the PS3 gets hot but nothing like the 360.

The best way to decribe the noise differnence is this way : when I used my 360, I had to turn the TV volume up to 8 to hear the speech in GTAIV. Wife and kids could hear it upstairs when playing COD4. When I use my PS3, I can set the volume to 3 and hear it perfectly with no complaints upstairs. Can turn TV down to 2 for killzone 2 and hear all perfectly.

The green light on the front is my only indication it's actually turned on, it's silent.

I find it almost inaudible. Sure, you can hear the blu-ray drive access the disc, but it's much quieter than most dvd players. The fan noise is very hard to hear too (you hear a little "hum" when it's been on for a long time or the room is hot).
