Replacing old iPod battery: worth it?

Have an old 2nd Gen 40Gb iPod with a wasted battery. Was thinking of taking to Mactivate to get a replacement battery, or looking to order online.

However it's an old model and I'm wondering should I bother. Could actually be cheaper to buy a newer one.

I've attached a photo, any help appreciated. Just wondering should I bother or simply buy a new one. The latter seems a waste, would prefer to re-use if possible. But not if it's more expensive to refurbish!

Maplins do a battery, including tools and instructions for about €16. Plenty of video instructions on youtube too.

JUST BE CAREFUL of the hold switch, thats where it can go wrong. Great to have as a stereo for the car, if you add in an FM transmitter.

Maplains are extremely expensive for purchasing most electronic components. You can get the battery very cheap online (check ebay.ie) and they can be a lot better in performance than your old battery. I recently changed a battery for my sister and her new battery now has a much longer mAHr (charge time) than the standard Apple OEM battery.

Unfortunately a bad experience with one of the cheap eBay batteries which lasted about 6 months.......at least Maplins are only up the road. Sometimes cheaper ain't necessarily better.
