I need to get rid of my Marshall MB4410, 56kg is just waaayyyyyyyy too much to be lugging around! I wana go with a separate head/cab to make life easy again.

At the moment I've been looking at:

    http://www.dv247.com/invt/61988/

    or

    http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~Ashdown-ABM-500-EVO-III~ID~8663.asp

Also I know nothing about cabs, 4x10, 1x15 etc not sure what way to go.

    Any suggestions?

I'm using and Ibanez SR700 > Boss LS-2 with a Bass Big Muff and an EHX Micro Bass Synth in loop A with the clean tone blended in...

I play electronicy heavy rock sorta stuff and like to make lots of noise.

    Thanks!

My old bass player went from the same Marshall to the same Trace Elliott. Lovely sound from it. I've always liked the sound of a 2x10 cab with a 1x15. Keeps some great snap but really kicks out that rumble.

I'm hunting for something that can firstly, can handle the output of my SR700... The Marshall MB4410 that I'm using, although its a fantastic amp, huge sound, insanely loud but doesn't have enough headroom to handle the bass. The SR700 runs very hot and I'm finding myself leaving the volume on the bass at about half. Every other bass seems to work fine but this one is a bit OTT...

I'm looking for sweet cleans with a lil bite, the pedals will handle the rest. The only amps I have access to try before I buy are the Ashdown, the Trace and some Peavey heads. I LOVE the Marshall but its WAY to heavy at 56kg, I'd love some portability.

Recently I've seen a few youtube vids of the new Orange Bass Terror 500w with a 1x15 cab, sounds huge and weighs in at 4kg, perfect for a tour but its release date is yet to be announced and like the other compact heads, I'm worried about the headroom I'll have...

All I'm looking for is a beautiful clean tone to work with, an EQ with a lot of control and portability (ie. under 56kg!).

A lot to ask for but with a budget of about 1300 euro for a head and cab, I'm hoping I can find something that will suit my needs!

AFAIK Peavey are making the Trace heads atm, would it be a big step up from thier Tour series? (the VB's are well out of budget) and the Ashdowns from what I've heard have reliability issues. (Hear-say I know but it makes me worry :p).

I'd like to know what people are using for gigging heavily that can handle the tone, volume and beating they will get on tour!

i have 2 setups a eden wt550 with a 2x12xlt cab which is my main rig , sweet mellow tone but can rock it with the best of em.. and a ebs hd350 with a 4x10 ebs cab, also bell clear..

on 1300 i would second my first suggestion of the GK head.. sweet clean highs i wouldnt associate with ashdown, and smoke machines are what i got from my trace head

Also look into SWR the workingman series is a FINE FINE set up my teacher has one and its class!! any modern head should be able to handle the bass.. have you tried adjusting the Gain adjust screw on your pre(if there is one)
my Sadowsky pre has one and so does my east and i needed to adjust both to my liking , also if it seems like its distorting the cab try putting in a fresh battery, distortion (not that u mentioned it) from a bass 50% of the time is a low batt.. i chanege mine every 4 months for the sake of it

    Aurin
