Desperate times call for desperate measures and Ray Drecker's situation couldn't be much tougher. The former high school sports legend turned middle-aged high school basketball coach is divorced and struggling to provide for his kids when his already run-down house catches fire. Looking to take on a second job, Ray decides to exploit his best asset in a last-ditch attempt to change his fortunes.
Created by Dmitry Lipkin (creator of 'The Riches') and Colette Burson, HUNG uses dark humor to tell the story of a man fighting to survive personal setbacks that have been compounded by a troubled economy.
The series stars Thomas Jane ('The Punisher,' '*61') as Ray Drecker; Jane Adams ('Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind') as Ray's business partner, Tanya Skagle; Anne Heche ('Men in Trees') as Ray's ex-wife, Jessica Haxon; Eddie Jemison ('Ocean's Thirteen') as Jessica's successful husband Ronnie; Sianoa Smit-McPhee ('As the Bell Rings') as Ray's daughter Darby; and Charlie Saxton ('The Lovely Bones') as Ray's son Damon.
Created by Dmitry Lipkin and Colette Burson; executive producers, Colette Burson, Dmitry Lipkin, Alexander Payne, Michael Rosenberg, John Morayniss and Noreen Halpern; co-executive producers, Scott Stephens and Emily Kapnek

    Starts Sunday 28th June HBO

    Threads merged.

Watched it earlier this week.. it was decent but not great!

The pilot was quite slow.. but it was an hour long pilot, whereas they'll only be half-hour episodes from now on. Hopefully the pace will pick up!

The series definitely has potential. I thought the pilot was done quite well and considering it's a HBO show, it's worth giving it a second chance - they're re-nound for showing quality shows.

surprisingly good, and not too graphic didn't want to see his dong

That's the thing. HBO make it realistic with the nudity/sex whereas with the networks they are so anal about restricting sex and bad language. If Swingtown was made by HBO it would have been a whole different story.

Really enjoying this. I'm a massive Thomas Jane fan so I may be biased but so far the writing, acting and directing has been top class.

Question, I'm thinking about bringing the first 4 episodes of this with me to watch on my laptop on a flight... do you think it would be alright, I mean is there long sex scenes or graphic violence or anything little timmy passing by my seat might report back to his mother.

note: I know nothing about the show, I like to go in blind rather than have expectations of what to expect.

Sex scenes aren't to bad, they don't make a huge deal out of them they focus more on the before and afters because that's where all the lols are.

It's a fairly good show alright and it's getting better with age. Will definitely be following this one.

Only the second episode had a more "HBO style" sex scene which goes on for a little while (but still only seconds). The pilot and episodes three and four have pretty much no sex/nudity and no episode has violence of any kind. Thomas Jane does show his bare ass at the end of the credits for each episode though, so you may want to skip over that :).

Yet another show with a young Oz actress (Neighbours this time). No wonder they are all leaving the 2 soaps to try their luck in America.

The only other thing I remember him in is the 2004 version of "The Punisher" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0330793/) and he sounds pretty much the same :).

I caught up with this last night... I don't know.. it's OK but it's not fantastic either!

Best thing about it is the cool theme tune.

PS - is anyone else distracted by his son and daughter? It looks like his daughter's face belongs on the son's face and vice-versa?

What I'd like to know is how Thomas Jane & Anne Heche are supposed to have produced two fat ginger heads as their offspring? Something seems to have gone awry in the gene pool...

HBO have done it again and produced another quality show. Long live HBO.

Thomas Jane has revealed that he feels insecure about his male anatomy since working on HBO's Hung.
The Mist actor, who is married to Medium star Patricia Arquette, has admitted that he shows his wife all of his scripts and that portraying a well-endowed man comes with its downsides.
Jane told Uinterview: "My wife reads everything I do. And I showed her this thing I’d been doing, The Mist, which is about creatures from another dimension. And then I showed her this script called Hung, about a guy with a giant d**k. And she said, 'Great, more science fiction!'
"We are born to be insecure about [our] penises. I was actually quite happy with mine until I did Hung. Now I don’t know what to think of it, maybe I’m not big enough. I was basically really happy with mine, now I’ve got all these issues and I have to go see a shrink."
He added: "It’s a unique scenario playing a man with a large penis. I didn’t know my penis was going to be famous along with me! If I had known he was going to be famous, I would have treated him better in my younger years - I wouldn’t have rubbed him on the carpet so much and gotten that horrible rug burn. I would have treated him a lot better."

    :D

At least we know it's coming back for another season. Really like this show. It has a pacing similar to Mad Men imo, and a premise reminiscent of Breaking Bad (guy with no money in a financial predicament turns to illegal activities to make ends meet)

Really hope it gets a long run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

It's still a bit oddly paced. I don't hate it, but it's not "must watch" either. And I just don't get where the overall arc for the season is meant to be going. The "happiness consultants" business still hasn't got any traction, the Gemma storyline is over, anything to do with Tanya seems to be going nowhere, etc. The only "complication" in the story seems to be Jessica and Lenore hanging out together...

For me it is ok, no revelations comparing to Dexter, Desperate Housewives, Weed or even the band-new The Good Wife. The best episode is when we meet Gemma and the scene on the beach. The show is good, but i've seen better.

Not a bad return. I liked this show but it really started to lose my interest towards the last couple eps of season 1. Would be interested to see them do a bit more with the show - it's feeling slightly monotonous now.
