so last night had a party. few friends of mine(and my bfs)and their partners- got a take away, had a few drinks. This morning id to bring the bottles and cans to the local recycling centre. Now there was a LOAD of them because the men all brought BOXES of beer (the 15 bottle ones) and the women brought wine.

So i rattling away putting the bottles into the recycle centre and a woman beside me turns to me and says "You have a serious drinking problem you would want to cop on for yourself" I never met this women in my life!!!

i just simply said **** off and walked off- nosy cow!!!

I saw a complete piss-head a couple of days ago trying to hide his cans while he shoved em into the re-cycling bin. He held his white bin-bag up to the hole and was trying to push them out of the bag and into the bin, thinking that nobody would know what they they were. He had several more bags on the ground full of beer-cans.

The OP's old lady would have dragged him off to the next AA meeting, and probably signed him up for a liver transplant.

See in that case my gut tells me to stay perfectly calm, politely smile, and explain to the nosey bitch (politely) how terribly in the wrong she is. It mortifies them. Especially when they think they have the moral high ground: DETHRONED.
