First of all my apologies in advance for being probably the millionth person to ask for advise on this topic but I'm hoping someone can give some tips or at least point me in the direction of the right thread.

I used to run up until about 5 years ago. Wasn't a great runner, it was more for the craic with the crowd in my club and the travelling around the place. I enjoyed it alot but unfortunately I'm a chronic asthmatic and about this time 5 years ago I had a major attack from which I've, only in very recent times, fully recovered from. It created a whole host of other problems (smaller attacks, chronic wheezing, collapsing lungs, etc) which just wouldn't go away and meant I was unable to continue running and training.

Thankfully I'm fully recovered now and would like to get back in shape and back on the running trail. I've just rejoined my old club but would really appreciate any other info/ips anyone can give?

    Thanks :)

Dont worry about it people here i doubt have any problem giving you advice they are just happy too see the more people into running at all levels the better. Joining back your club was a great step there you will be able to have people around you of similar levels that can motivate you. I will say for now just take things slow and build your strength gradually, fitness takes time to build up and there are no shortcuts. it also helps to set both short term goals and long term that you would like to achieve ( make these realistic as you will only be disheartened if you aim to high and dont get there)The best of luck with it
