I tried Komplett and various other mail order suppliers for larger capacity IDE laptop drives and they are telling me they are being phased out.

Peats only had one 160GB in left stock. Im need a pair of them in at least 250GB. I am only interested in getting two of the exact same make, model size batch no etc.

IDE is almost dead technology these days and is almost completely phased out. AFAIK no computer has come with them in atleast 5 years

Anywho, quick look on komplett.ie, they have these 320GB for €79 a pop. Aint half bad. Im sure peats were looking for more for the 160GB sure.
Checked it out, was confused about the PATA part. Snapped up two of them :) Tanx.

Not more but not much less either. I'm afraid at Peats we're very close to giving up stocking IDE hard drives. They've just become so expensive to buy in from the disti's as demand is so low.

THere are still heaps of people using IDE, all those over rated Panasonic toughbooks, I use a purpose built machine that was used for sound production, It originally had a pair of 120GB drives built into it, I intend to just use one drive in future and free up one of the USB ports that was driving the other.

I'm aware there are tons of people still using IDE but it's becoming expensive to buy in IDE stock and consequently it makes us look expensive too. (I'm aware of the irony for some).

For example. A 500GB Sata 3.5" drive retails for €75 with us. The same capacity drive only IDE retails for €109 and that's with much less of a margin than the Sata version.
