www.mywheels.ie does not give any info on finance owed on the vehicle. Don't think it lists stolen recovered info either.

Also be aware that www.mywheels.ie appears convinced that no car has ever been written off in this country.

Dont use MY WHEELS, a lot of the info is incorrect, from number of owners to car been tax`d/nct`d,etc. Its probably free for a reason.

It seems bizzarre that the govt have a system of ownership registration where the actual owner of a car is not openly recorded.
Surely there could be some section of the VLC showing the actual owner along with the registered owner. When you pay off the finance co., the VLC gets changed to show this.

Who owns Cartell or Auto Records ltd and how are they given access to govt data on vehicles?

If I buy from a dealer do I need to have a check done for outstanding finance?

For peace of mind I would. While most big dealerships would do this check when they take a trade-in it is not unknown for the odd one to be overlooked or a mistake made. Could prevent a bit of hassle later on for you.
