Just picked up my Copy today. Shocked at how heavy the box was.

Must be the 39gb of Jam Packs or whatever that come with it :D

I want to hold off until I ask a little about how best to install & ask a couple of questions of the Logic Guys:

Whats the best way to begin / start off on the right foot?

    1. Custom install preferences / best practices / general practicallities. Does anyone have any advice or tips that they could share?

    2. Are the Jam Packs essential?

I've got plenty of HD space available.. so 39gb isnt an issue.. but if they're a waste of time, maybe I shouldnt bother installing them in the first place. Have many people installed them?

I've got 2 250gb HD's. One is System & the other has all my Samples on it.

Currently got my Logic .lso folder on the OS HD.

I dont record Audio in - Apart from using a Mic from time to time.

I mainly use Audio files / Midi - and bounce if/when I need to.

    Cheers Lads!

    :D

Insert Disc .... press ' Go' ... do what screen says ... Bob's yer Uncle.

I think all the stuff that comes with Logic is very good.

If you don't like it later, Dump it ...

Open Disk Utility. Hilight top Disk in the Hierarchy/System Disk.

    Repair Disk Permissions.

Do this before and definitely after you install Logic.

& Stir well before serving.. ;):D

I'd still like to hear other peoples experiences, especially if they have any other recommendations - other than just the regular install procedure.

    It's the manuals!

On my Macbook Pro I have put the loops onto an portable external drive to free up space on the internal drive.
To do this, install as normal then go to hd>library>audio>apple loops
and copy them to your external drive then delete them from the internal drive.
In the same directory you will see apple loops index. Delete the files in that folder.
Next open logic and open the loop browser in the media pane.
Drag your loops folder (on the external drive) onto the loop browser then select to index the loops but leave them where they are.
Now all your loops are on the external drive but logic knows where they are.
Any time you use logic plug in the external drive.
You have now saved about 40GB on your internal drive.

Thats a great idea for Laptops Trackmix.. Its a lot to have to stick on an internal drive alright.

Slight topic deviation. I don't use the loops at all in Logic but they are all installed on my machine. Should I dump them?

    If so how?

    Thanks

They are located in Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple.

You will see the Jam packs aswell as Garageband, ILife stuff there. Put it in the trash:eek:
