    Hi KingJo,

I literally just arrived back from Edinburgh yesterday, having been there since Monday. I've been there a few times and I never get sick of the place. The good thing is that it's a very compact, if hilly, city.

it's a nice city to stroll around, and wander around the city centre with the magnificent castle overlooking the city. There are the obligatory things to do like walking the Royal Mile, start at the castle and have a stroll down the royal mile along the touristy street, which has various attractions along the way. You end up at the Royal Residence and Scottish Parliament at the bottom.

There are the dungeons, which I haven't been in but have heard they're not up to much (but that's just one opinion).

Go up Scott's Monument, which is located in the park in front of Princes' Street (it's a huge tower...you can't miss it). There are really class views all around the city once you get to teh top. It costs £3 to go up.

If you look up Princes Street, you'll be able to see a structure on the hill that resembles the Greek Pantheon, it's well worth climbing up there (not much of a climb) for more views.

    They're the obvious attractions, anyway.

Before you go - book the underground tour. We missed out because of all the bookings.

We were there over Easter and did this tour and I would say it was only OK. It was good to see the underground tennaments under the Royal Mile and learn some of the history of the times but I found the tour itself a bit Pantominey...........

If you got nice weather I'd recommend climbing Arthur's Seat for a fantastic view of Edinburgh and it's surrounds. Would probably take you half a day up and down at a leisurely pace.

In general though it's just a lovely city to walk round and enjoy the atmosphere.

    +1
if you can't be arsed, go up Carlton Hill. It's half an hour/40 minute walk from the city centre with some cool stuff up there. Great views of the city too.

Just bring a good pair of boots if your heading up Arthurs seat and a print off of a map from the net is handy too. Made it from the parliament to the top in less than an hour last year but you have to have your wits about at the same time, nearly slipped up myself using a slightly more adventurous route back down.

The view from the top was amazeing though, definetly worth a little bit of simple preparation ,phone charged etc
