Queues of about 20 outside O2 stores in Dublin city center.

No demo units on show :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,321 ✭✭✭sham69

Got mine at 8:15 this morning.
Was 5th in the queue at henry st O2.
Fair play to the staff there, they were very efficient.
    Happy ending.

There were no queues in Galway. I was home with my new toy by 8.30. Happy days and fair play to the staff in Shop Street - really fast and efficient!:D:D

Same for me... no queues in Galway whatsoever, unless one person (i.e. me) is a queue ! I have to back in again later on for mine though, a 2hr approval process (???) but I'm assured it'll be waiting for me.

Got my 32GB this morning. No queue but me. 2 people came in after the shop opened to buy it. Have to go back later to pick it up.

Me too - as I was a port from Vodafone. Frustrating, but not a big deal.

Got mine on Henry St this morning - no probs at all. Fair play to the staff in there - were very helpful with my queries during the week and they made the whole re registration a pretty painless exercise. First experience with O2 and so far so good!

Wrecking my head now that I have the phone beside me and have to wait til after work before I can hook it up!!

As a matter of interest, are they any thinner/lighter than a 3G?

Or are the changes all to functionality etc...

You can activate the phone on any machine with iTunes. You don't have to activate from your primary machine. So install iTunes on your work machine, activate the phone and uninstall iTunes. Presto!

the 32gb one is biger then the last 3g its more fater

I'm still restoring all the junk from my old phone, contacts, music, photos ... this could take a while. On the upside, my signal strength looks better than my old phone!

I bought a case for mine, anoidised red metal one, but it was made for a 3g, and it fits perfectly, so I think they're the same.

Havent got one yet but according to Apple's website they are exactly the same size which helps those of you with docking stations / accessories etc. The changes are to the inside hardware and of course the new 3.0 software.

They're exactly the same size - barring the 2gram increase in weight. Go to Apple.com to check out the dimensions.

    I couldn't get a 32gb one anywhere.

Was first at CPW in Ashleaf SC in Crumlin and they only have bill pay ones.
Then went to tallaght they told me to come back later and they may have a 16GB for me.
Then went to Rathmines didn't have any speakeasy.
Finally to Dundrum and only 16GB aswell.

    Damn it.

Got mine but it prob won't go live until tomorrow.......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭portcrap

Managed to get one even though the o2 store said they didn't have a 32gb in stock when I phoned  ............until I pressed them and said this was supposed to be on a first come first served basis.....magically one was left in the store room ;)

Can't fault them when I got there to pick it up, service was great!

    Syncing it right now :D

Picked up mine this morning around 1030 from the O2 store on Grafton St.(beside BT). Initially I just said "I'm here to pick up a 32Gb iPhone" and was told they were sold out. Then I said "but I had one reserved with my name on it" then the guy went to the back room and produced one which a sticker with my name clearly on it. So I don't know what the story is, but from what I can tell mine was pre-ordered.

Having chased around since 8.45 this morning (I went to Carphonewarehouse and O2 on Grafton St and called various other stores), there doesn't appear to be anymore 32GB models left in Dublin city. Although, having read here, it appears they may just be holding on to stock in the sotre room which is a bit crap when they wouldn't take my pre-orderlast week.

Oh well, they expect a two week wait for stock now.

Still waiting to hear back about the contract and porting. 6 hours so far. To be fair to CPW, they've kept me in the loop on how busy O2 is.

I had an issue last year with the original 3g and like you CPW kept me informed about how they were doing everything and it was o2's fault.

But not being one to believe the hype I went back to CPW and after much hassle on my part i finally got my forms from them and a look at their system and striaght away noticed the problem and that is was that one of their highly skilled staff couldn't take a number down from one sheet and enter it correctly in a computer.

I got my 16GB black today, was 3rd in the queue! Only one gripe, when I plug the USB cable in it says 'charging is not supported with this accessory' or I get a pop up saying 'this accessory is not made to work with iPhone' Why?

Human error happens. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

I've got mine about 8 hours now, and I'm really loving it. Missing some of the jailbreak features, but everything else is just superb. Big thanks to Daryll too for helping with some questions I had before porting to o2!

You could ask Daryll (from O2) here.

Just picked one up there an hour ago in CPW, total impulse buy, I really really didn't mean to get one just yet, but I rang them and they had one and oh god.....

    Hey everyone,

Just a quick message - my boyfriend works in o2 in Blanchardstown and he asked me to let everyone here know that they are out of stock, won't be getting any more in until next week and aren't ordering them in or holding them for anyone!

Just to let everyone know, might save you a wasted trip!

Posting this from my new iPhone... What can I say, this thing is the dogs dangley bits, I'm hugely impressed!!! I notice a very big improvement in app speed over my 1st gen itouch. Safari absolutely flies. I was also very pleased with the service in the O2 store in Galway, very helpful, and thanks to Daryll on here too!

i'm waiting on mine to port over from meteor. ipod sync etc all done and candyshell in place. All i need now is for the phone to go live:(

I bought a Belkin leather pouch in the store today, and while it's very smart I think having to take it in and out all the time will irritate me.... So I'll be looking for an alternative me thinks...

You didn't happen to buy yours in Carrickmines, did you?

I got a candyshell based on recomendations on this forum and its brilliant! It gives great protection and looks good too.
I also want to second what you said about Daryll - I had a couple of issues and he sorted them out immediately :D
