I would like to propose a subforum or two for Bio/Med.

There has been a suggestion raised in our feedback thread for an "exams" forum for medical students - I want to pick up on this idea and propose 2 new subforums for Bio/Med

    Undergraduate Health Sciences Forum

    Postgraduate Health Sciences Forum

    (perhaps less clunky names).

The rationale is there is a large scope for students who go to different colleges but similar courses to be able to discuss exams and studying for the same. After we are all regulated and thus sit the same core exam format no matter where we are based.

For postgraduate students - all medical doctors are required to do membership exams to enter their postgraduate royal colleges. All nurses who wish to specialise beyond general nursing need to do diploma or masters degrees to be specialised. Pharmacists have to complete a regulation exam after their pre-reg year. There is big scope for discussing exam resources and courses to attend in these fields and would be just about the only zone for irish health care professionals to engage in this.

I wish to separate the undergrad from the postgrad so that undergrads do not feel intimidated posting beside qualified members. If these are successful, we will let the communities roll forward.

    Thoughts?

This is something me and DrIndy have discussed recently, and I'd like to add my support for this idea.

I like the fact that you're putting the health sciences together but splitting under- and postgrad...sounds good would love it if you did this!

I think this would be a great idea, would be great to be able to share resources amongst students, bounce ideas off one another etc. And the post-graduate forum would also be useful to the undergrads so that we could get a true sense of what stands before us in our careers!!

Would there be enough threads on exams to justify 2 new sub-fora?

I could make enough threads alone (if this is going along the clinical scenario etc idea?) :p

Well right now there isn't. But the hope would be that it would attract people, as I don't know of any other site for irish students/medicos to discuss exams.

Thanks for the input folks - i see there is broad support for this - I'll escalate it to the admins and see about getting it done.

We'll run it for a provisional period of 6 months or so and see if it takes off well.

    Anyone else got thoughts?

Particularily - what should we call these forums?

I think the names are good. They are dry and a bit long but they leave no ambiguity as to what should go into each forum, which is a big plus. Any new user browsing here would immediately know where to put education related posts/threads.
