i'm in the market for a bass amp for a gift. i know nothing about them so looking for some suggestions.
Budget is about 300euro and will be used mostly at home but would like the option to gig with it from time to time. extra features would be nice, effects etc. after that i'm open to suggestions.

Its over the E300 budget but well worth the extra bobs mate. Theres not much better than these around.

+1 for the Ashdown mag. Good value at the price IMO.

OP, keep an eye on www.adverts.ie and www.gumtree.ie

Some pop up there from time to time.

Ashdown are great i play an ashdown mah 600 R, but its there cabs, and there speakers that really let the whole mix down. I love their heads, but am never going to buy there cabs, unless the new US series changes this.
The mag 115 combo, is a good combo and you should get it, for what it is, but its not the best combo. Some old peavey one s are great, like the t-max, etc.
Some of the laneys look good. Can you stretch a bit further.

EDIT: also with ashdown combos youll need a second cab to get the full output of the heads, so the EB 180, i cant really see the point especially for the little amount of watts youll get by adding the second cab. I would defiantly save up more for the mag 300 combo, with your choice of speakers, 2x10,1x15 etc.
Other brands to look for, especially i you can find them second hand are hartke, peavey, old trace elliots.

I'm not familiar with the electric blue, but I've read mixed reports about them. Besides 180w would not be powerful enough for gigs. I agree with fatgoogle, save a bit more and get 300 watts.

I've gigged small pub venues with the mag 300 without an extionsion cab with no problems. I suppose it depends on venue size, and how hard a hitter the drummer is. :pac:

Monastery Music is it? I think they're up around there somewhere. Never been to the shop though. Have mates who have, they're trad players.

Here's another Ashdown, compared to Thomann its a lot cheaper. Its the Ashdown MAG C210-T300 EVO II Combo 300 Watt Bass Amp

I know i'm always harping on about the shop, but they look after me and are always open to negotiation on prices!:pac:
