Or are you planning on getting another one at some stage like me?

I have a Marshall JVM and have always liked Marshalls but its not quite doing it for me. The tone is almost there but not quite. Im going to try out a few more boutique amps like Bogner or Diezel in the future to see what they're like.

So im just wondering are people happy with their amps tone and would you recommend it? And that goes for any price range or size too:)

Pretty happy with mine. Clean could be a little nicer but it's great for bluesy stuff and the distortion is pretty spot on. A better speaker or nice 2x12 extension cab would do it well.

yeah nice enough, only use the clean channel on my tsl now, but the cleans are nice, i like the 25watt switcable option and ive nice overdrive from it now, so yeah im pretty happy, id like to pick up a fender at some stage but no plans anytime soon

Very happy with my Dr Z's ....It's amazing how your playing and tone improve when you're going thru a decent amp. :)

Have a JCM DSL401 marshall myself but im dont like the distortion sounds from the amp to be honest.
Im looking to change my amp and build a whole new guitar rig from scratch.
I was over in london a few weeks ago at the guitar show and had a look at the new range from blackstar which are a relatively new company but there amps and pedals are very impressive.
Im also looking at the new mesa mark v amp.

those blackstar amps are getting rave reviews lately yeah, and i dont like the distortion/overdrive from my tsl, some nice overdrives will help you out there

    I'm never happy ;)

I have 3 amps and I only use certain guitars with certain amps. Band practise and gigging(when it happens) is through a Marshall 30th anni head and 2x12 cab. Its good on the clean channel and I use pedals for the rest.

At home I play with a Matamp First Lady and this is one awesome amp. Breaks up real early and crunchy as hell. Very versatile for home and studio use but not for live as you have to twist knobs to get the tones.

Last one is the Mesa LSS also at home. I have a love hate relationship with this amp. Meh.

The first thing you can do to improve your amp tone is get a new speaker. It is also an investment that will grow with you (should you decide to trade up, you can just swap the old speaker back in).

Personally one of the best I have tried is the Tone Tubby Alnico. They are quite expensive, though, take an awfully long time to break in and really need to be in an appropriately powered amp (it sounds particularly crappy when underworked). That said, they don't cost more than a lot of boutique stomp boxes, and the difference a better speaker makes to your overall sound is far greater than any one stomper (generally speaking).

I also have a Scumback M75 (Celestion G12M clone) on order. The Scumbacks seem to be loved by Marshall guys and generally fans of the old Celestions.

Otherwise, changing transformers/adding a choke etc. can make a huge difference, but depending on the amp, it might make more sense to trade up than to upgrade, if you follow.

I have never tried NOS power tubes, but NOS preamp tubes are really the icing on the cake. That said, there are other mods I would do first (the speaker being the most obvious one).

Yeah, like Quattroste I'm another Matamp owner, and I'm very happy with the tones I get from it.
    http://www.matamp.co.uk/1224IIhead.htm
I'd describe it as a complex but simple single channel amp!
What I do love is that it has seperate gain and overdrive settings, it gives you a lot of choice from a single channel amp. And after having the 6CA7's replaced with EL34's I'm really loving it.
At this point I've come to prefer a set up like mine, or a single channel amp with a boost function, rather than having different channels. I dont really like that whole 'this is my clean sound, BAM!! this is my dirty sound' kind of thing. A good single channel amp and a guitar with good usable volume/tone pots and away ya go. Each to their own though!

I hate to say it but I miss my Marshall dsl401 and les paul setup. Gone thru quiet a few amps since then, still think it was my best soudnding set up.

Honestly, can't think I'll ever replace my Engl Invader, it's just sweet, sweet awesomesauce.

Since I only play at home at the moment I'm pretty happy with my champion 600, lovely little amp

    I'm using a Fender Blues Deville 410.

Absolutely smashing amp, lovely cleans and a great variety of sounds to be had from it.

My '64 AC50 give me pretty decent cleans to mild overdrive
My '71 JMP50 does fairly ok overdrive
My hot rodded '81 JCM800 does reasonable high gain tones
My HB GA5 is a willing volunteer for experimentation
Plus I went and built my own amp from scratch, tweaked to my own tastes, so I'd say I'm pretty happy at the moment.
It's also great to get time with other peoples amps, have had a 5150, an ENGL Powerball, a 1959 JCM 800, a DSL 100, and an old MarMac PA in the last couple of weeks. :)

Nope, im not happy, it does the job but i would rpefer something different. A pre-gibson trace elliot would do me great. Or an ebs fafner, but lack of money as they say.

I've a crappy Peavey Studio Pro 112, it's a step down from the Bandit.

I've used it for a few gigs, it does the job in that it makes me louder, but it's crap!

I'm thinking of replacing it with a Hot Rod Deluxe, or a DSL 401, but I'm not too sure about the overdrives on either.

    NO! God no :(

Not really. I've got a Marshall AVT100, which leaves a lot to be desired. I just leave it clean and use pedals for everything, but it's too complicated. I only need a loud clean amp, if reverb's there, all the better. I'd like something like a Twin Reverb - big and clean and loud.

I'm happy with my amp, I get my tone from my pedals.

I traded in a Mesa Nomad and got a Hot Rod Deluxe (and some other stuff). I only use the clean channel, and get my OD tones from pedals.

I think I'll replace the speaker and valves, but I'm happy with the amp.

That being said, if I had a few quid spare, I'd love to head over to Matamp and spec up my own setup with an expert.

I switched over from Amp and pedal board to the Fractal Audio Axe FX Ultra last October and am extremely happy especially with people like Dweezil Zappa sharing his presets and knowledge.
