Delta Airlines - Shannon to JFK - December?

    Hi,

Hope I am posting in the right place. My mum and her friend have booked flights to New York with Delta on the 1st December to go from Shannon to JFK.

However apparently these flights have now been cancelled as Delta will withdraw from Shannon in October. My mum's friends daughter booked the flights on her card and she is away until the end of July.

They have tried ringing Delta but have not been given an answer if the flights are to be refunded or what? Does anyone know anyone know who I should contact to find out? I asked in a travel agent today but they said since I was not booking with them they coudn't help?

Does anyone know who I could contact to find out one way or another as I have two women in their late 70's getting very excited :D

    Thanks in advance.

First thing is to get the PNR (the 6 digit booking reference) or any other booking reference number and get on the phone to Delta.

Forget the whole "my mothers firends daughter" thing . . . just get on the phone to Delta armed with the PNR and ask them to tell you what's the story with the flights, rebooking, etc . . . they can't possibly come back with an excuse about giving an answer - if the flights are cancelled they are cancelled.

Be prepared though - unless Delta have an arrangement with Aer Lingus (or anyone else) then they will not be able to magic up seats on a flight that is not going to involve your mother getting in a car and driving to Dublin. Maybe they will not rebook the flights and only give a refund in which case your mother needs to start looking around for alternative carriers.

Either way, getting on to Delta with the PNR is the only way to start.

They have an obligation to get the passengers to their destination on or around the same days as originally booked.

If Delta really do the right thing, they'll rebook everyone on the Continental flight to Newark. But it's more likely that Delta will automatically rebook them on Air France via Paris (Delta has close ties to Air France). If that's not acceptable, get a refund and book new flights directly.

But, if you lookup the PNR on delta.com they may already have rebooked the flight.
