Did this happen on or off the bike

on the bike, i slipped on gravel and lost control of the back tyre, i hit the deck and my knee hit it too

So its not a bike setup/pedal problem . I am no expert but just take it easy for a few days and cut down on distance. If the knee continues to get worse after few days then seek professional help . Forget about knee supports while cycling as they are of no benefit. Sounds like bad bruising which will settle in a few days. Ice and some ibuprofen for the swelling will help. Good luck with it
