Why not do what I did and get both. That way you know exactly what you get. You can always trade in your least favored ;)

I must admit though I haven't had many chances to play them because I got addicted to UFC.

    Infamous.

I rented out Prototype and it's pretty enjoyable too though. Neither have multiplayer so you might be better off just renting both. I'm holding onto Infamous though, hoping for DLC, though none has been announced.

This might help you make your mind up... or not :P

Both good, but both have very little replay value.

For me though Prototype just edges it in terms of most fun to play.

    That was actually fairly funny.

I'v only just bought inFAMOUS and I have to say so far Im really havin fun. Im playin it as Good-boy Cole and I actually am loking forward to playing it again as Dickhead cole.

The Only thing is I'm sure that whatever one you get, your gonna spend alot of time wondering wether or not you made the right choice, so whatever you do just enjoy it and have fun.

    Holy constructive comment batman!

Infamous is hawt, haven't played a better game since Killzone2. Haven't played Prototype yet alot of people here seem to have issues with it's controls and aiming which is frustrating.

I got both and for me anyway I enjoyed Prototype more. The controls are ok I find it a lot easier to get around the city in Prototype. The aiming is a bit awkward but inFAMOUS also has a lot of glitchs in it as well invisible walls walking through some walls.

Only played the demo of Infamous, enjoyed it but certainly not excellent. Decided to take a punt on Prototype even after the lukewarm reviews. Have to say that I personally prefer it, it's pretty rough and the city, while rendered well, is only a backdrop to the mayhem and not a living metropolis like in GTA4. The combat is well done, some of the battles are fantastic.

I think both are decent games, prototype edges it for me (I stand by my ninja gaiden/wolverine mash-up) but only just. My rationale was that prototype being slightly newer, I can trade it in for potentially more money after I finish it and get a preowned infamous without incurring too much loss.

Yeah but it's much more boring getting around the city. Basically just hold one button and it's easy if you're going nowhere in particular, but if you wand to get to a specific spot, or in timed runs, hit a checkpoint, it's a pain in the arse.

Not a bad game by any means, I just found it a lot more frustrating and a lot less polished than inFamous in terms of graphics, control, music, presentation, voice-acting and especially story. I found Infamous a lot more fun, I enjoyed myself the whole time playing it, rather than swinging between fun and frustration in Prototype. In saying all that though unlike a lot of people I didn't come across any glitch in Infamous, I think there might have been one minor one at one point. I haven't heard of any game-breaking glitch or anything like that, so I don't think the glitches are really an issue.

Prototype is like a big, loud Hollywood blockbuster, plenty of spectacle but no depth.

The demo only covers a tiny portion of the game, like three missions out of 40. There's a lot more to the game than what's in the demo.

So, like most other demos then?

I was basing my opinion purely on the feel of the game, I can't comment on story or glitches, but I can comment on controls, gameplay and "feel" all of which lean me slightly in favour of prototype,

It's a case of apples and apples, the two games are very similar and what swayed it for me was having big spikes as opposed to electricity as my weapon of choice.

Ah yeah I know that, but the demo was really good, if you didn't like it you wouldn't like the full game. But if you thought it was good but nothing special, the full game would probably change your mind is what I'm saying. As opposed to some other games, where the demo pretty much sums up the game pretty well.

But yeah it's apples and apples like you say. To go back to my Hollywood Blockbuster reference, Prototype is like Transformers, all spectacle with a weak story and characters but you probably won't care, whereas Infamous is like The Dark Knight, a bit more going on underneath the surface. That you'll probably get involved in the story. Which kept me playing Infamous and is why I dropped back Prototype 4 days early after renting it. I stopped playing it at one point and had absolutely no desire to go back to it again, in fact I started a third playthrough of Infamous instead.

From reaction I've seen around the place, it seems that people who played Prototype without playing Infamous first love it, whereas people who play Prototype after Infamous, don't like it half as much. I'm speaking generally of course, but it seems to be a common enough reaction on various sites.

So for the OP, it's a no lose situation really, you'll probably be happy with whichever one you pick up.

After playing Infamous, Prototype just feels like a rough draft, while Infamous feels more like the finished product.

Ha, yeah I know what you mean. I would like to play it for the story. I liked the demo, it just never really wowed me. I was the same as the OP, really stuck between the two and looking for one title to edge it over the other. In the end it was more or less a coin toss.

My 16 year old brother walked out on Transformers 2 because he couldn't take anymore of it.

Why do these threads come up??.....

''One or the other''... do people group games together and decide they can only get one?

Had Infamous, suppose it was good, maybe a 7/10, i think it gained a lot of brownie points with the ending which i will admit was classic but then again it wasn't the game as such was it?

Got Prototype last week, i'd give it an 8/10, wasn't too sure what to think after seeing mixed reviews but have to say after the first 2/3 missions it really takes off, so many different ways to play it. It's like GTA meets I Am Legend/Cloverfield/Dawn of the Dead... it's a lot different then what i was expecting it to be from the reviews i read(i leave out most of the plot lines as not to spoil games i'm going to get, just read about the gameplay-general opinion parts)

All in all, two good games, and these things are never about a choice between two(unless your a child with no income), just judge games on their individual merits.. if there both good, get both.... if there both poor....get neither.... and both are worth getting, but Prototype is better IMO, it advance better, only advances in Infamous are the different-slightly harder enemies between the three islands

Well, I think people are entitled to post and ask for opinions. My reason for not getting both is I can just about shell out on one game, lucky for you that you have a job that not only rewards you with more money for games, but allows you enough free time to play them both

Ya but why not just ask are they good, you can only afford one game?(never going to buy another?)

Eerrr i don't have a job, i'm on the dole(since today, FAS course last year, same weekly amount) which is the bare minimum anyway over 18 gets in this country, and i can still afford to buy two games over the space of a month(from when infamous was released till now-prototype is out bout 2 weeks)... as i said only people who can't afford two games in a month and need to chose(as they have no income-only parents) are kids, and there can't be many of them here.

I too am unemployed and still find it hard enough to play even one game at a time. I do have to compete with 2 younger brothers for game time, but I would still struggle to get through prototype and infamous, they are just too darn similar.

I stand by my original logic: OP buy prototype, play it through and trade it in, pick up a second hand copy of Infamous without incurring to much loss. Alternatively, do what someone suggested and rent them, neither has any multiplayer and the side missions are of the spiderman "filler" variety which are fun but not any real reason to hang around past the story.

Well it's hard to disagree with such a detailed, thought-provoking and reasoned critique such as that. I stand corrected, you've made me see Infamous in an entirely new light.

I was the same as the op, tough decision got infamous from advice here.
Wont look back loved the demo loving the game rented out prototype its just not into the greatness i found in infamous.
Sure your in new york but the blood and violince is covering up something. And as for the controls jee-bus!
Infamous has "popping" in the distance i didn't notice it much in prototype.
    Maybe i didn't care.

I saw a review in fhm for both, the results were 3 out of 5 for prototype, 4out of 5 for infamous. I think this is fairest reviews it better slightly.
Both will have fans both will have enemies. Rent both, buy the one you prefere.
If you really enjoyed the demo for infamous you'll love the game.

Just threw on Infamous for the first time tonight. First thing that strikes me is the graphics - a bit underwhelming when compared to similar third-person stuff; GTA or Assasins Creed for example. Good gameplay though.

Graphics are poor, the cars are especially sh!t
Baddies are hard to see sometimes
    Same sh1t every mission
    His fat mate is annoying
Not much to be doing in it etc etc

When games like call of duty etc are on the market, id be embarrassed to release this game.

lol, you'd be embarrassed to release a critically and generally well received game.

I must've missed the part in the Call of Duty missions where you did anything but shoot bad guys if you're talking about same **** every mission. There's as much variety in the missions in Infamous as there is in Call of Duty. But I forgot that every game released these days has to be Call of Duty or it's autmoatically ****. I hear that Gran Turismo 5 is now set in the middle east and you have guns attached to your car.

It's been pushed back a bit because they're recording all the voices for the cars so they can shout generic quips like "They're flanking us!", "Take that motherf**ker," and "Not on my watch!" They're using the voiceactors from Killzone and the guy who played Screech in Saved By The Bell.
