Non Contibutory Pension (Means Test Question)

Hoping someone can answer my question.

A friend of the family received a letter today stating that his pension would be less than he had anticipated.

    It's regards the means testing.

Just to say first he has no savings etc and his only means of income is what he is getting now which is some sort of Pre-Pension payment €204.30

His only other income is a Farm Grant he receives which works out about €70 a week.

He is being means tested on this so basically his pension is being reduced by €40 (therefore he is receiving less even than what he is currently receiving)

It's just that if he was earning €200 a week in employment none of this would be means tested. It's only employment earnings over €200 that is means tested.

He lives alone and will be receiving around €175 a week.

He has cattle etc and needs to feed these cattle etc and vet expenses and this farm grant covers some of this only.

    Thanks
