Where to look?

Where exactly are people looking for jobs? Are you calling in directly to companies, using fas, newspapers, jobs.ie?

No matter what I use I get no replies. It's a little annoying. Are many of you getting replies from anywhere? It's fustrating to send out 50 cv's and not get one single reply.

What is your technique in searching for a job. Do you follow up with phone calls and emails after you have sent out your CV???

Jobs.ie is probably the best from a content perspective. They have less agency jobs than Irishjobs or RecruitIreland. However, now with much fewer jobs across all sites you are probably best using a mix of Jobs.ie and Irishjobs.ie.

From a response perspective you are right. It is very frustrating when you do not get a response from an employer. I always encourage my staff to reply to people when they apply for jobs. Sometimes however due to the large volume of electronic speculative applications that may not always be possible - but it should be done, especially when the position is advertised online.

Finally, I think following up by phone has pro's and con's. My advice, if you think you are the right person for the job - really - you have all the experience required... then put in a call. But don't harass the hiring manager - one call and an email follow up is plenty to get attention.

I have had better success from applying direct to a company who had advertised off a jobsite, I got an interview but didnt get the job. I am registered with agencies also and believe you should use both avenues in this tight time. I try and get an email or phone number of a specific agent in an agency that recruits for your specific field. I then chase them every few weeks if I haven't heard back from them. However I am finding it difficult to find enough companies that are advertising directly. I am getting lists of companies off the internet in different sectors and then looking to see if they have any positions advertised on their websites. It's a full time job looking for a job!
