call me crazy but ive discovered a very unlikely and unusual alternative to bread.... cucumber..

get a cucumber and cut it into slices )it maybe small but its quiant and really tasty) top one slice with a filling, ie tuna and lettuce and put another slice of cucumber on it and eat it, its so tasty, ive a horrible addiction to it now, im lovin it!

Good idea if you like it. I use iceberg lettuce leafs as wraps. I also just shred them up and dump them in a bowl and pour on spicy mince beef or turkey on top, really bulks it out well with very little calories.

I hate cucumber & celery, I think some people have a sort of allergy to some chemical substance in them.

Also ryvitas are a good alternative, 3 ryvitas is the same about the weight & calories as a single slice of mc cambridges bread.

On a similar note, though this is not for everyone - I have found that mushrooms are a good low carb alternative to pasta, though maybe that is just me.

My husband does the cooking - he sautes them in a little olive oil having sliced them first, though this would not be ideal if you are watching the calories - I know that grilling them is brilliant too (and I prefer it)...

I just have them with whatever I would normally have pasta with...they are yummy!

that sounds absolutly amazing, im going that tonight with onions and peppers, thanks for that, would pepper sauce be really bad to have with it?

Sorry I do not know what pepper sauce is and had to ask my husband! I imagine that it would be nice but try a small bit first.

Yep, me too, cucumber to me tastes absolutely revolting.

Thread here of people moaning about the taste of cucumber, and discussion of the genetic basis for having the ability to taste the phenylthiocarbamide which is believed to cause the bitter taste.

Just wondering how you prepare the mushrooms to be something like pasta? /Large mushrooms make a good alternative to crisps etc for dips. As a snack, they are nice with homous, or any other healthy dip
