Full Frame Sensor Cleaning, London

I read somewhere that full frame sensors are that much more difficult to clean than APS-C ones. Certainly, my own attempts at wet and dry cleaning of my Canon 5D always left something to be desired. I got it cleaned yesterday at Fixation in London (http://www.fixationuk.com) and I just took a few test shots of the sky (guaranteed to show any dust bunnies). Crystal clear!

The cost was £63.25 including VAT and well worth it in my opinion as they did a brilliant job. They also encourage sending the camera by post from Ireland but for anyone in London on a regular basis it's just as easy to drop into them in Vauxhall. Have it there by 9:30 or so and it will be ready by 3:30.

    Regards,

    John

I was over there yesterday. By the way, it is necessary to book the job in advance.

Wow, that's expensive. I have a full frame body (Nikon D700) and I've been cleaning the sensor myself for the last seven months using the Dust aid system. I bought the stuff from morco in the UK. There's two parts to it, a dry system that uses a silicone pad to pick up dust that the ultrasonic cleaning cant shift, and then a wet system for more welded-on crap. Each of them costs £22.95, and will clean the sensor numerous times.

I know it can be daunting at first but I really believe shops are earning easy money at this lark, the cost of consumables is relatively low so I'd encourage anyone out there to overcome their fear and have a go themselves ;)

Here's a link to the cleaning procedure on the DUST-AID website on a Canon 5D MkII to have a look at ...

    Thanks for the link, Paul.

Yeah, Fixation's price isn't cheap and it's not a service I'd be availing of a few times a year. Maybe once a year, or couple of years. My problem was the welded-on crap that I couldn't remove and they removed it. Well worth the cost, in my opinion.

    Regards,

    John
