People find it hard to understand what I'm saying

I've come to realise that people find me hard to understand at times. I don't have any speech impediments (lisps/inability to pronounce my r's, that sort of thing) but I think perhaps the simplest way to describe my problem is that my diction is poor. I'm inclined to clip words, not pronounce them properly, run words into each other and to pronounce some words oddly. It all adds up to people asking me to repeat what I'm saying or to just pretend they know what I'm on about out of politeness or because life's too short.

Sometimes the words that are in my brain come out of my mouth pronounced all wrong if you know what I'm saying. I also wish sometimes that I could just convey what I want to say to other people without having to speak, like speaking is an effort. It just can't keep up with my brain anyway.

Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions. Is there any sort of speech therapy for adults that could help me here? Any other suggestions? It's starting to get me down
