Taking the plunge

I'm a long time boards.ie user but I wanted to create a separate account for this purpose. Basically I am very overweight, borderline obese and I'm fed up with it, it has knocked my confidence with girls and lowered me general self-esteem.

I was hoping for some advice on how to lose my weight, below are some physical details. I was going to avoid joining a gym at least for the moment because I'd be self conscious of working out there - instead I was going to buy some cheap gym equipment and use them at home at least until a time when I'm confident enough to join a gym.

If you could reccommend the cheapest and best equipment to get I'd be greatful -my short term goal is to get to my correct BMI by the start of september (2 months). Afterwards along with keeping the weight in shape I'd like to develop some basic upper body muscle.

    Height: 5" 6'
    Weight: 223.6 Pounds
    Age: 17

I think my BMI is 36 if someone could confirm, and what I want to achieve is 20-22, lets say 22 meaning that my ideal weight would be around 140 pounds meaning I need to loose about 80 pounds

Thank you for any advice you can offer

80 pounds in two months, that is, 9 weeks, or 10 pounds a week?

    Just no.

Step one: Read the stickies, particularly the ones on weight loss. I don't want to sound like a prick but a lot of people seem to not bother reading them just to have someone else reproduce them in their own personal thread. So read them.

Step two: 10 pounds a week just ain't gonna happen buddy. It might be physically possible but that kinda weight loss won't stay off and you'll lose your health with the weight. 1-2 pounds a week would be a more sustainable, if even still optimistic, goal.

Step three: Have a bit of a read, a bit of a think and come back.

The important thing is yes, the weight loss is doable but it's gonna take longer than two months.

Good luck - but remember that sorting out your diet is the key to losing weight - using gym equipment at home isn't gonna achieve weight loss on it's own.
