Setanta on UPC -

There is still no statement from UPC regarding the status of Setanta subscribers and the channel is still actively advertising the setanta pack and accepting orders for Setanta at € 18 a month.

    Currently:
Setanta Golf, Setanta 2,Setanta news and Celtic TV are gone.

Racing UK,ESPN ,LFC & Chelsea TV continue

Racing UK is to go as a premium stand alone in the UK - £20 a month (Good luck!!), LFC is to continue as is ESPN on a to be announced platform

As it stands I am still paying €18, obliged to do so for the next month (cancellation period) AND pay €10 to downgrade

To add to the confusion Setanta Ireland are claiming that they still have the rights to the Premiership although other outlets are saying that that is not the case.

Can anyone clear up the confusion?

no way they can charge you a downgrade charge as they are the ones not fulfilling the contract which you entered into

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 62 ✭✭Tomas911

You get an option to downgrade, altho I only found this out when I rang them, otherwise I would still be paying full price. But I'll get rid of it now, I only wanted it for the extra soccer matches.

There is no confusion. It was only the UK rights that were lost. Setanta Ireland and Setanta in the UK are two seperate groups.

Setanta ireland still has a full compliment of services see statement from website. I was talkign to upc this morning and they have said they wont charge the downgrade fee

What is now available on Setanta Sports in Ireland?
Setanta Sports Ireland will now cover broadcasting in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Please note that there are different levels of coverage available in Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, and the full programme content will be advised in due course

What content will I have in ROI?
We are working with various sporting organisations to bring the best of the sporting action to the package. In the meantime we will continue to show top live action including Barclays Premier League, Magners League Rugby, GAA Coverage, Formula 1, Champions League, Europa League, and live golf from the major tours.

If the Setanta Sports pack does change, how will you let me know?
We will communicate with all our customers either by letter or email to outline new pricing and new content that will be available.

What channels do I have now and what channels will I have in the future?
Setanta Ireland; Setanta Sports 1 are currently available – we are working with channel providers to restore other channels.

I specifically subscribed to Setanta to view Racing UK/ESPN. Will these channels continue to be included as part of the Setanta Sports Pack?
We are working with the channel providers to restore the other channels for you.

How do I cancel my subscription?
As we are going through this period of change, we would suggest that you do not unnecessarily cancel your subscription. We will be communicating with our customers as soon as possible to outline any new pricing and sporting content.

If you still require to discuss any change to your account, please contact our Customer Service Team on 0818 20 30 40 (ROI) 0871 200 4170 (NI)

For now, it is best to hold off making any decisions about your subscription, we will be communicating with all of our customers to outline new pricing and content that will be available.

I currently pay annually and want to apply to have my subscription refunded due to the change in content. What do I do?
For the minority of customers who still have annual contracts with Setanta, the options available to you will be explored and a further update communicated on this webpage

Should I cancel my direct debit as I don’t want to pay Setanta money if they are no longer trading?
As we are going through this period of change, we would suggest that you do not unnecessarily cancel your payment. We will be communicating with our customers as soon as possible to outline any new pricing and sporting content. If you still require to discuss any change to your account, please contact our Customer Service Team on 0818 20 30 40 (ROI) AND 0871 200 4170 (NI)

My payments are currently made to Setanta. Who do I pay now to ensure I get the programmes I want to watch?
Our Customer Service team is available to answer your questions. Please contact them on: 0818 20 30 40 AND 0871 200 4170 (NI)

If the Setanta Sports pack does change, how will you let me know?
We would advise that you make no changes to your payments. We are working with the channel providers to restore other channels for you.

What if I am a Setanta Sports customer based in Scotland/England/Wales?
Setanta Sports is now no longer trading in Scotland, England and Wales, and therefore our channels will no longer be available to you if you are based there. For more information, please use the following link: www.setanta.com/UK

Racing UK is going to be a stand alone channel costing £20 per month in the UK so whatever that costs here is a mystery.

Apparently it is not that straight forward at all - it appears Setanta Ireland where only "subletting" the rights from the holding Setanta company - its not even clear if Setanta Ireland will survive.

Personally I would like it to survive BUT I want to know what I am paying for - at the moment all the content they advertise is on the FTV version and there is no premium sports on Setanta 1.

As UPC are openly trying to buy Setanta its not in their interest to lose subscribers - and while acknowledging there is no downgrade charge - there is no clarity re Racing UK which according to themselves shall be standalone as soon as all current obligations come to an end

I would imagine racing uk will still fall under the setanta ireland umberella, anyway i'm fairly sure upc will want to hold onto it even as a stand alone channel..

Just depends how much Racing UK wanna charge!

    • Setanta Ireland
    • Setanta 1
    • ESPN America
    • Racing UK

With immediate effect the following channels have ceased to broadcast following the entry of Setanta UK into administration
    • Setanta 2

Guys, I'm watching this thread - as long as it keeps to the specific topic of UPC its fine, but can we have any general discussion on the Setanta receivership over in the main thread:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055585581

I have merged 5 Setanta threads so far, this one will be merged too if necessary.

On a similar vane, how did Setanta work out that they would have 2.5 to 3 million subscribers by 2010 when Sky Sports were just about making a profit at the time?

2 weeks on from the closure and Setanta Sports 2,News,Golf and Celtic TV are all still on the UPC EPG - Why ?

Today all the channels above went to a test card/tone

As Upc havent a clue how to use the bandwidth they already have let alone any extra...about time they added something if even for a temp placement rather than a blank screen...

I presume that the EPG slots would be viewed as "assets" and the administrator can sell them off. This may be the reason why they are still up there. A good EPG slot is always sought after. Of course it's a bit of a nuisance for the customer to have surf through empty channels.

I would doubt that the EPG slots would be considered as assets - anyone taking over the slots (ESPN?) would have to agree a carriage deal with UPC - and have Irish rights.

The Sky epg is different as basically there is an EPG embargo on new services - thus the slots have a value.

Whats really annoying is the customer being left in the dark by UPC - either way probably see some outcome this week

I would agree that the cable slots would not be as valuable (or anywhere as near as valuable) as the Sky slots but perhaps the administrator is applying the same principle.

Its now official that Setanta Ireland have lost the rights to the 46 games that made up the 5.15pm Saturday night and 8pm Monday night games.

The UPC or Setanta websites have not been updated...

    So thats that then.........

Now confirmed that the rights to the Saturday games at 3pm are being re advertised - so that could mean no EPL on Setanta

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,769 ✭✭✭Infoanon

More than 3 weeks since the closure of Setanta and the EPGs are still on NTL with a Test Card -- this must be a record.

More unusual is that the 'revamped' UPC website is advertising the Setanta pack including Setanta 2,Golf & Celtic TV !!

With Setanta winning the 3pm games it is possible that ESPN shall stay as part of a 'setanta' or 'espn' pack - unlikely but the alternative is 3 subscriptions on UPC to watch EPL

There is no word from UPC to date first game Sat Aug 15th

I could imagine that is very difficult for UPC to find replacements for these channels with an ultra short notice they probably had been given. I can only think of Europsort 2 and ESPN Classics, but it's hardly any true substitutions for the channels lost.

To be honest, I'd rather watch the test picture on the busted channels than channels such as Buzz, Euronews in 5 European languages etc.

EPG wise, there is loads of free space on UPC so what they are playing at is a mystery to me!

Now 4 weeks on from the closure of Setanta.....

All 4 closed services remain on the EPG AND continue to be advertised as part of the Setanta Package by UPC !!!

Celtic TV & Setanta Golf now gone to blank , SS2+SS News still showing a test card....

ESPN America ceases on the 3rd August, LFC TV is no longer part of the Setanta pack, Chelsea TV according to Setanta Ireland are no longer part of the pack, Racing UK is part of the pack though Racing UK say that they are now a separate sub........ Confused ! and no clarrification from UPC

I believe ESPN America is only changing their name to ESPN with the new sports seasons starting in the US in August :)

So, anything you might have recorded before this time will be unwatchable, unless UPC pulls the channel all together as they don't get the fact that it is only a name change (in theroy)...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,769 ✭✭✭Infoanon

Latest :Setanta 2,Golf,News & Celtic all gone to black but remain on the EPG.

UPC have altered their advertisements of Setanta but curiously it still includes ESPN america - which ceases on the 3rd August...

Maybe UPC trying to put ESPN & SS Ireland on the same sub concious that theres two chances of anybody paying 3 subs to watch EPL...of course the silence from UPC remains deafening....

    Quick update:

Setanta 2,Golf,News & Celtic TV have been removed from the UPC EPG.

Chelsea TV which remains on air has been removed from the UPC EPG

ESPN America remains on channel 410 but UPC are no longer advertising the service as part of the Setanta pack

Racing UK are still on 411 but Racing UK are advertising that by mid - August they shall become a stand alone subscription service and shall not be part of a Setanta package

If UPC come to an agreement with ESPN re EPL then it would be expected that ESPN America would be removed completely - the 'new' ESPN channel on Sky is a replacement for ESPN America

Either way I cannot see ESPN America in its present form to remain on UPC for too much longer

No it's not!!! the new ESPN channel is separate to ESPN America, and are both carried on SKY (along with ESPN Classic).

It's looking like ESPN America will probably form part of the ESPN package on UPC (If they ever finish up their contract discussions).
Hope they include ESPN Classic....but that would probably be wishing too much!!!

In any case (and staying on topic) Setanta Premium pack looks less and less value!! Now worth €5/month I reckon.

I was only suggesting an amount a subscription service was worth... and most people here who have been offered the "€5/month for six months" have accepted it.
Personally, I agree with you. I think Setanta's future should be on Basic Cable and Basic Sky, and moving onto FTA DTT when the time comes. They'd probably generate more revenue that way (from advertising).

Update on Setanta pack as of this evening:

415 Liverpool FC TV - black screen
411 Racing UK - Due to go standalone from Sunday but not a word from UPC
410 ESPN America - only on a Setanta sub at the moment

And the price is still € 15 per month.....losing a channel a week at this rate (Chelsea TV etc etc)

UPC had advised that a definitive statement on Setanta would be issued before the start of the EPL season...

    Disaster for Setanta!!!
They are making a bad situation worse!!! Can't see them keeping/picking-up any subscribers in UPC.

I actually really feel sorry for them. You have to support any Irish Business that operates on an international footing.

Just shame the tried to take on Sky head-on. It may have been more wise to get into bed with them like ESPN.

Based on the UPC Website looks like we are down to Setanta Sports 1 for €15 a month.

Fairly poor treatment by UPC of their customers - at the beginning of August (when subs where due for advance payment) they where assuring subscribers that the Setanta pack for the future was SS1,ESPN America,Chelsea TV,LFCTV & Racing UK....

Feel pretty unhappy about this - but what comeback do you have with UPC....

ESPN for €10 per month if you have Sky Sports as most people would have is a far better choice than Setanta for €15 per month. Got a HD box -even better.

    This is getting annoying.

LFC TV gone - but I have ESPN Classic?? I don't see that listed as part of any sub anywhere, so how the hell am I getting it?

So does anyone know exactly what channels are now on the Setanta Sports pack on UPC??

This is looking like I'm gonna get rid, and switch for ESPN. More games, same price.

    Annoying is putting it politely!!

ESPN Classic is on the Digimax package - thats how you are getting it - its not part of the ESPN or Setanta package.
Racing UK continues ! while LFC TV appears on the EPG BUT its a black screen.....

btw if you have Sky Sports then ESPN is €10 - Setanta is €15
