Stupid question about weight

Is there a weight limit for a road bike?

I want to buy one to train on but I am about 110kg's. Not a big fat lardo but 6'3 so I think I need a large frame also?

I am worried the wheels will buckle the first bump I hit.

    Any advice? Thanks.

i'm a 100kg and not 6'3 get to know your local bikeshop owner, you will be getting wheels trued regularly (i'm doing my own at the moment) i dont bend wheels regularly but they do go eventually and the roads round donegal leave a lot to be desired.
frame size prob large but again lbs is the place if your not sure.

Generally only very lightweight wheels have a specific weight limit, I have ones that have 90kg specified. The frame will be fine. Consider getting good strong wheels.

At 100kgs and I use Bontrager lite wheels. But I do take care of them. I do watch where I go and where I put the wheels. I if have to hit a hole I stand to transfer weight from back to front and reduce the level of impact to any 1 wheel.

My second priority on the road after safety is my wheels & tyres.

My own experience with Bontrager wheels (only the Select) is that they are pretty bombproof. Never had to true them. I believe though if you DO end up having to it can be near impossible.

    Thanks guys,

Planning to go to Quay cycles in Drogheda. Was in there last Sunday & they seem very nice & knowledgeable.

A lot of factory wheels have weight limits on them, just not very advertised. Usually always around the 85kg mark. I just picked up some Mavic Open pros which are hand built and reviews call completely bomb proof.

Any kind of touring spec wheels are the business.
