Now that Setanta have lost the rights for the next two seasons and ESPN have taken them over, whats the chances that UPC will broadcast ESPN?

They haven't even launched any new channels yet unless ESPN Classic and America are getting all these sports.

They said the channels will be on sky and you wont have to pay extra for these channels or channel showing all the ball. (No Charge On Sky Only)

but they reckon there will be a fee for virgin & bt customers in the UK, so i'm sure it will be extra here and i'm sure we'll get it so they make there money on the 3pm saturday games

...and won that bid apparently, but I'm soundly confused where Irish rights come into the equation.

No they didn't. Those rights have not been up for auction yet. ESPN have won the UK rights for what Setanta showed in the UK, not Ireland.

Irish rights are owned by Setanta ireland which is still in operation.

Exactly, Setanta Ireland is still in existence. People should hold tight for the moment to see what comes out of this.

    Extremely high in my opinion.

I'm not so sure. ESPN have the UK rights, no? The Irish rights have yet to be decided. This is where Setanta Ireland comes in I presume?

As long as Setanta Ireland are still in business (who are profitable as far as I know) they will hold onto the rights. They are not tied to the English rights packages they lost.

UK rights = 5.30pm Game, Monday Night game. (ESPN own these now)
Ire rights= 3pm game on Saturday as these games cannot be shown in the UK as it would affect the attendances to other games esp the lower leagues. (Setanta Ireland still have these)

There's Irish rights for these too, unless you can prove otherwise?

The way I see it amongst the confusion, is ESPN have UK rights only, not any of the Setanta Irish rights, including the two packages mentioned above.

    Anyway, this is OT now.

    hey guys
from a reputable source (manager in ntl chorus)
they will not be getting the rights to the espn channel
sky digital have exclusive rights to this channels pack only
also with setanta ireland free on chorus/ntl this is not going to be the case also all the goos man u and liverpool matches will be shown on setanta 1 which is a premium channel so you will have to pay the €15.00per month for it
in my opinion i think you should go with sky

Can one of the Mods close this thread or merge. This issue is being discussed on this thread.

btw... I agree with Mossy. OP registered to give false information. Maybe even works for SKY, or is a SKY agent :).
Pity he has taken the Liverpool name in vane
