Foreign Driver License and Insurance Issue

    Hi folks,

My brother is coming to the country next month, and I wish he can drive my car in Ireland, unfortunately he holds an Argentinian driver license which is legal in the country for one year long. The thing is that I have called several insurance companies (mine included) and no one insures an Argentinian driver license, so.. my brother is coming just for vacations, what is the regulation into this? how a tourist can drive a car in Ireland for a few days if no insurance company insures you?

    Thanks a mil!
    Andres.

Your brother can drive on International Driving or even on the Argentinian Driving License for one year. You can talk to insurance company and add him as an additional driver on your car. I think it should not cost not more than 20-25 Euros per month. Insurance will add him for that period only and you ll get a separate disc. I hope it helps.
if he plans to drive a rental car, than car agency will charge some premium above the charges or even take some card authorisation>>> I am not sure on this

If he's staying for awhile contact your local motor tax office they may be able to help or give you advice about him getting an Irish license or LP. May-be they even issue temporary licenses but contact them asap in case he needs to bring some documentation over with him.

Guys I will contact the motortax office as no insurance companies are insuring Argentinian driver license or whatever driver license that is not issued by an European country.

Thank you so much indeed for your kindly responses.
    Andres.
