Quick diet question

The question is quick, not the diet (just thought I'd clarify that before I get any dirty looks).

So I've finally decided to mend my wicked ways and eat properly. I've used a G'em post in the fitness forum to work out I have 3065 cals a day with 15% deficit etc.

Most diets I've seen about tend to cater for less calories, and I'm not quite ready to try a menu from scratch.

So my question : When using someone else's menu, can I just increase the portions to make up the cals or is that a bad idea.

Yes, you could take a 1500 cal menu and just double everything.

BUT. I am very skeptical if you really can lose weight on anything like that calorie level. If your maintenance was really over 3000 cals a day, chances are you would by busy trying to bulk, not to lose weight. That's a lot of food to eat every day.

Most people under-estimate how active they really are. In my experience, someone who commutes to a desk job, even if he really kicks ass in the gym 3 or 4 times a week, had a maintenance of about 13 cals per pound of weight. And you have to reduce to cut.

Oh I'm not going for any mad bulking or cutting, I just followed the guidlines in the fitness forum sticky. I didn't factor in any excercise as I can increase to suit I guess and at the moment my excercise is all over the place.
I'm 20stone and I'm looking to lose at most 3stone. When I was 18stone I was match fit playing rugby, so another stone off that is probably the point I'll be happy at.

Now to start copying menus :)
