Buying tickets from people online.

I am considering buying a ticket to a festival online. I am paying 180euro for it. The person says they will send me a picture of the ticket to my email and once I pay using paypal, they will take my address and send me the ticket. The person had advertised on toutless.

I was just wondering if anybody else has had any experience on buying online and what is the best way to make sure everything is perfect?

    Please help.

Hey! In my experience, paypal is one of the better ways to scam someone out of their money. I got scammed and I would never use paypal again. Ask him to send the ticket via registered post and ask him to give you the registered number. Check that number on www.anpost.ie and if it is a legit number then you know he's sent it (if it is the ticket he sends you and not something random just to scam your money!). I wouldn't send any money until the reg number has been confirmed by you.

I know I sound a bit suspicious but I just don't trust people buying a ticket from someone without meeting face to face.

They have sent me a picture of the ticket. But whats to stop me from not sending her the money if she sends the ticket? If you weren't using paypal what would you use? She wanted to meet face to face but im too far away.

I hope what would stop you from not sending the money would be human decency and not wanting to rip someone off!!!
I would send a postal order via reg post or else meet face to face. Its the only way I would do it personally. Unless you knew someone who lived near her that could meet her for you?

Im obviously not going to rip her off but I'm just talking from her perspective. Sorry to be a bit dim, but what way would a postal order work??:o Could I somehow tell the post office to only give the money if I receive the correct goods or something.
Sorry dont know anybody in Cork, where she is.

P.S the person also gave me their home address and said to look it up in the phone book if that would make me feel more secure.

Haha your grand! It's just the alternative to cash. You get one in the post office for the amount your paying (there might be a small charge but it wont be huge!) and then you send that to the seller. People just use them to send for payment for something instead of sending cash in the post. If you send it via reg post then the other person has to sign for it.

OK, so should we both send our items at the same time then or what? Ha, im soo bad at this!
I presume I can send her a picture of the postal order receipt.

If you make an agreement with her to send the stuff on the same day (I would wait til she texts you saying she had sent it first!) then check the reg no (its written on the receipt you get from the post office) on the an post website under "Track & Trace" and then once that verifies, get yourself to the post office and do the same thing!

    Thats sounds the best idea.

But if the goods aren't what they say what can I do? I presume someone wouldn't be that bad to give their home address and sign for the money if they were sending bad tickets. Please say you agree.:D

Jeez yeah I would hope so! Well if it was me, I would march down to the cop shop with all your info and see what they can do cos in my eyes it would be theft. But I don't think anyone would be thick enough to send you something dodgy with a home address and name to go by??? LOL!

We recommend face to face meetings though the vast majority of people are genuine.

Drop me a pm on toutless if you are worried with the persons username and I'll check their previous activity if you are particularly worried. (actually drop gary a pm I'll be in Glastonbury from tomorrow).

hardly sounds like an offer from a scammer

I've bought & sold tickets through few various online methods. Never a problem, apart from some git buying a ticket and putting it up for sale for double the price

When selling I always gave people option to collect in person

If she offered you the option to meet up I reckon it's usually fine. And people who use toutless are generally decent folk also (in my experience). Once you have a few contact details and name and a record of correspondence all you can do is have a bit of faith in a fellow gig-goer. I've never had an issue with Paypal but if this isn't an option then a postal order would be the best option bar meeting up to collect them.
