Anyone know the best hotel on the strip in terms of location and value for money. Ive already ruled out the stratosphere (too basic) and the Bellagio (too expensive).
Thinking of the Mirage or Planet Holywood, can anyone advise?

    Thanks in advance!;)

The Monte Carlo is very central on the strip. There's no gimicks but it's very reasonable and in the middle of everything.

There's a great restaurant off the casino too:)

It won't let me edit my response. I meant to say steak restaurant.

I stayed in the Luxor when I was there and it was quite nice. Reasonable too.

It's not quite on the strip (walking distance) but the Hard Rock Hotel is cool. It's also one of the only hotels where the reception staff don't get fired for accepting bribes for upgrades. Slip a 20 in with you driving license/passport when you check in and politely ask if they happen to have an upgrade available. We got an awesome room with spectacular view :)

If you are still looking for good hotel deals, then check the Hotel Offers & Discounts forum here. There are also other forums for restaurant reviews, deals on show tickets, nightlife, etc in vegas. Its a great resource for planning your trip. Also check out the vegas thread on fatwallet.com for hotel deals. You are better off dealing directly with the strip hotels directly, phone or website. I usually find that the MGM Grand has the best deals for that class of hotel.

I stayed in caesars Palace last year. Excellent hotel. If I was to go again I'd probably look to stay in Planet Hollywood. Any of the hotels from Planet Hollywood to Venetian, or Treasure island to Bellagio are considered centre strip

ok caesars, wynn and venetian would be out of your range if you feel bellagio is too expensive

circus circus, sahara and riveria probably gone too as they are not in a much better location than stratosphere

leaves you with everything else really, cheapest of those left would be
excalibur, imperial palace and tropicana. mid price would be treasure island, monte carlo, flamingo, mgm and luxor (one of those would be your best bet)

if you have narrowed it down to mirage or planet hollywood then mirage every single day of the week, awesome pool, cool hotel

Stayed in New York New York a couple of years ago, excellent hotel and we got an upgrade with no bribe neccesary! We arrived on a sunday night, all the party people were leaving town after the weekend so there was loads of rooms free and a free upgrade was probably good PR/customer service,i'd definitely stay there again after my experience there.

Stayed there last year for ten nights as it was very nice. The steakhouse was under construction while I was there. The MonteCarlo is central but you still have to walk down to the flyover to cross the strip to go up the Right-hand side. The strip is massively long and I walked from the Luxor to Circus Circus and back down and up halfway again then charted my route on google earth to discover I had walked about 8 and half miles that day. My feet were literally in bits. Still it was a good way to pass a few hours.

Harrahs, the Flamingo and Imperial palace are the most central on the right and the Bellagio on the left. The MonteCarlo is good value in the sense that you get a high quality product for an OK price, it is still not super cheap at the same time but Vegas is not to begin with. I booked 10 nights to Vegas in the MonteCarlo and Flights from Shannon with Delta for around €1,200 last year with ebookers. I went through around €4.5k there then:rolleyes:

I stayed in Excalabur this year (April). Definetly cheap and chearful. Rooms were big enough and comfortable enough. Enjoyed the theme of it and the fact that it is for a young crowd. The betting starts of much smaller than most places as well. Depends on your age, group size etc. Saw a few hen parties in there..

MGM Grand is by far the best in my oppinion. I have stayed there twice, and in Circus Circus. Circus Circus is for families, and at the top of the strip, close to old town Vegas. MGM also has a very good card room if you like that sort of thing

If you book direct, you get great deals with MGM. Thats what we did both times

I've not stayed there myself, but Bills - http://www.billslasvegas.com/ - has some great reviews on Tripadvisor and is very central on the strip. Cheap and cheerful by all accounts.

Have stayed in Ballys before. Cheap for a mid-strip hotel. HUGE rooms.

Stayed there myself, really nice spot. there was 3 of us in the room, so if your planning the same ask at the desk when you arrive to throw in a fold out bed, it was really nice actually.

Found the Luxor a bit out of the way though, thought New York New York would've been best place to stay as its fairly in the middle and nice and affordable.

LAX in Luxor is a good club, dont lose your credit card on the first night though, makes things very awkard!

bills doesn't have a pool or other amenties most strip hotels take for granted, it has one small restaurant down the back e.g, guests can use the flamingo pool next door but thats a good trek

bills has an excellent afterhours nightclub though

the easiest thing to do is to go on expedia and or hotels and check out which hotels match your criterias, which have the best offers, upgrades etc. doing it thAT WAY, We ended up staying in the flamingo, in the GO rooms which have all been recently renovated and are top notch, opposite caesars and with a view of the bellagio fountains, as they had the best deal, were very central, offered an upgrade, had a great pool etc...

Thanks very much (from the original poster), everyones suggestions were very much appreciated. I found a fantastic deal for the Mirage (€508 for 6 nights between 2 of us!). I dont think Im gonna better that.
Planet Hollywood was available for €502 for the same period and in fairness, I think either of them is a winner.
I plan on going to LOVE in the Mirage anyway, and my wife wants to visit the Fashion show mall which is next door, hence my decision.
    Thanks again!
