The Minister for Education has announced 2,500 new places on part-time college courses for unemployed workers (1000 of which are postgrad). They will be in sectors such as medical devices, biopharmaceuticals, international financial services and the food sector.

Rang the Department of Education this morning and as usual details are no available when the announcement was made (politicians!!)

Civil Servant thought that registering would be through Fas. (Fas had no information either.) If anyone has any information please post it. I will keep ringing around.

    Thanks :)

Sigh...so much problematic with this ; chief amongst them is that many courses have already closed applications.....

Chief among them it's a drop in the ocean.

Next it's that it's restricted to medium-term unemployed. That's it lads, incentivise spending a year on the dole rather than getting kids into postgrads. F*cking great idea.

Was on again to the Department of Education. The HEA have only just asked for proposals from the 3rd level institutions and they hope to have first proposals by July. No idea as yet whether people who already have a masters can take one of these conversion courses.

The HEA expect to have details of courses available by July 20th. (+353 1 231 7100). Application will be direct to the institutions themselves.
