Cut in tyre

Just noticed a cut in my tyre yesterday afternoon. They're Bontrager Race-Lites (aboput 110 PSI). Probably not the tyres fault, musta ran over something.:)

Is there an effective way to repair? I'm a bit concerned about getting a blow-out coming down a 1500ft incline:eek:. I did a few miles yesterday on an errand - hard going on flat ground - dunno if I imagined it but the back tyre seemed quite hot - like an under-inflated car tyre... No loss of pressure or anything, tube seems OK, just concerned for safety and reliability...

If it's a small cut, you can allegedly plug them with superglue but I have never actually done this myself.

If it's big enough to see the tube through, replace the tire immediately.

Post up a pic and people should be able to comment.

The Bontrager race lites are not really the commuting/training kind of tyre ... but man they are really really light.

Best think for peace of mind coming down say .... Wicklow Gap would be to replace.

I was in Cycle surgery in Dundrum there yesterday and saw some patches for tires (hanging near the tires). I related it to the patch your tire with a dollar bill idea. It looked like insulation pressed tight like tape, with glue on one side.

Could help get some more mileage out of your tire, which ultimately I think needs replacing, as it will just get bigger over time.

My rear tyre had a pretty big cut in it, but I needed it for the Slieve Bloom trip the following day. I just used a tube patch from a puncture repair kit to sit over the pin-sized hole at the back. I wouldn't recommend it but my PBK order won't be here until tomorrow at least and I think I got away with it because of my light weight.

Riding over the loose chipping sections without popping was proof enough for me.

Could you post a photo? Sometimes people get little cuts and nicks and think the tyre is gone when it is perfectly rideable.
