Anxiety and college

    Hi everyone,
posted here a few months ago wondering how to approach a doctor about anxiety. Well, unfortunately I haven't yet found the courage to do so and as a result, I've landed in a right mess regarding college.

    Here's my story...
In my first semester, I failed 3 modules. The university only allows students to fail a maximum of 2 per semester.

    Reason for failing 3:
1st module- I slept the exam out. It was on the last day of the exams and alot of people were already finished and had headed out the night before. The area was really noisy (lots of shouting, drunken singsongs etc.) and as I'm a poor sleeper, I ended up deciding to stay up and study. Fell asleep at my laptop and woke up in a panic, an hour after the exam had started. I made no contact with the students union, lecturers or anyone because I just didn't know what to do.

    2nd module- simply failed it.

3rd module- I passed the exam but overall I failed, because I didn't do a compulsary presentation. This was back in October, my first presentation in college. I had planned on doing it, but I had a panic attack thinking about it one night and decided night to do it (It was worth 15%, didn't know it was compulsary).

My attendance wasn't brilliant overall because I feel very anxious during certain lectures/tutorials (if I feel I'm being stared at, if the room is small and crowded, if theres not many in the lecture etc..). I often walked into college and intended on going in but felt like a panic attack was coming on, or felt really breathless and nervous/shaky. For one presentation during the 2nd semester, I ended up drinking a few shots of vodka beforehand to calm myself (I know this isn't good btw).

Anyways, I was just wondering if I finally do decide to go to the doctor and be "diagnosed" with anxiety (I'm 99% sure this is what I have), do you think this would help my situation (if I appealed to the university)? I don't think I'll chicken out at this stage. Will it will sound like I'm lying or making up excuses to them (since it appears that I managed to do other presentations with no bother)? It really has really affected my academic work in general. Even though I drank before one of the presentations I still felt very uneasy during it, my whole body felt shaky and even my voice shaked. I'm devestated that I can't progress to the next year because of these 2 mistakes, and to have to repeat a full semester over this.

Sorry for the really long post... if anyone has any general advice or experiences to share I'd be really thankful

In my college you have to fill out an extenuating circumstances
    form "before" doing your exams.

Go to the doctor regardless and find out for sure if there is something
    wrong with you.

Then ring the head of your faculty, explain the situation and they will
tell you what you can do.

Worst case, you have to repeat the 3 modules next year.
