Posted this question in the FAQ thread but didn't get a reply and need one soon, so right im new to the whole PS3, and ive heard that the PS3 isnt region defined i.e. it can play any regional games. Is this true? If so, how does the online work?

Can I play the American game on European PS3 account and connection?

And would I have to download the DLC for that game on the American shop, or will the Irish one be aright?

    Thanks.

Yeah it's region free for games but you will have to buy DLC from the corresponding country's store, American store for american games' DLC etc.

    Blu-Rays aren't a 100% region free though, some are, some aren't.

just one to note....I had an issue whereby i couldnt use the cod:waw map pack 1 from sterling UK PSN store. granted i was sharing with a mate, but im still really not sure why this didnt work as i shared my map pack 2 with him. So its just something i would consider before getting games from abroad (even up the north). Notoriety H is still right bang on in what he is saying tho. :)

I honestly can't explain that issue.

The UK and Irish versions of games are identical. As well as the DLC. Strange.

OT, be aware the some games have their online servers locked as well. Army of Two was like this. If you had an American copy, you had to access American servers. Most games are not locked though.

This comes up a lot the PS3 is region locked its the disks that have to have the region coding as well, at the moment all games( IFAIK) do not include a region lock. some Blue rays do include a Region lock i know i got one from the states that wont work.

DLC is another problem Rock band for example was nt out here for about a year after the US release so i imported it i dont loaded some song packs from the UK store and they wont work there is no warning about this and sony will not refund any money paid for DLC.

I have heard of some games having region defined servers ie if you have a UK gmae you get put onto the EU server.

But generally it isnt a problem

I thought it was extremely strange at the time also, i ended up buying my own map pack in the end so it didnt matter too much. As I recall, the UK PSN got their map packs about a week ahead of us for map pack 1 release. didnt happen like that with map pack 2 tho.... strange indeed !
