I am looking for people going hunting in the NE region - Louth, Meath. I know that my gunclub has hundrets of members, but as I am new to hunting in Ireland and dont know many people who hunt, yet - can contacts be made through these threads?

    Hi Thomasofmel,

What type of hunting is your pleasure, I love rough shooting and the odd bit of lamping.

    Hi Macadam,

I have been target shooting since a boy - done some hunting in the past, birds & bunnies. Just getting started in NE - have the .22, so birds & bunnies. The gun club I am in does not organise outdoor shootings -and as I dont know many landowners, nor wanting to join multiple gun clubs, I though to give a try here?

Did you not get permission when applying for you licence??

Its my first licence in Ireland - and states that it is subject to conditions NONE below, and then it lists a) hunt & kill etc protected wild bid, b) holds an other certificate and c) hunt & kill non-protected animals and hold 100 rounds of ammunition. ??

I assume one needs landowners permission to go shooting on their land?

just when your driving around and see a farmer about, stop and ask him for permission! if you dont have insurance try get it, it will be better for you and the farmer will be happy to see it to! thats how i got all my permission! just stopped and asked and knocked on doors! i got more yes's than i got no's! best of luck

Thomas as G Jim above has said ask the farmers - most will say OK. BUT get some insurance, it's only about €45, as it will make the farmers happy. It's no good looking for the insurance after the accident.
