It's best to buy them in cheap supermarkets.

When I was there in '04, they cost roughly..

    25c.

    YES. 25c.

It was very annoying though, some places where charging as much as 33c! Bloody rip off if you ask me..

Depends if its cheap beer or a well known brand. deepends where you buy the pint

A can of local stuff would cost less that a euro in a supermarket

but a pint of heineken in a fancy club would probley cost 3

You'll pay close to a tenner in the Plaza Mayor in Madrid

In Madrid it was about €4 for a pint of lager/Guinness. €5 for a bottle of magners. Depending on where you go though some places might do bigger "pints" that are actually about 750ml. They'll obviously cost a little more in the centre but if you move outside the city centre drinks get cheaper.

If you like wine then that is definitely your cheapest bet, they can be as cheap as €2 a glass and are usually lovely (not like cheap wine here).

Supermarkets are the best place for buying beer, we got a big case and it worked out at just under 50c a can.

Irish bars in Madrid are the most expensive place. Pints are about €3 in spanish places, shots are about €1

how long is a piece of string?

There is a lot more price discrimination in bars in Spain than in Ireland. You can start off a night paying a euro a beer and end up paying 4eur for the same drink in the small hours. Basically the later it is and the posher the gaff then the more expensive it is.

Also, pints are only really drunk in Irish / costa bars. Most Irish bars charge 4-5 eur or a pint, very expensive especially when it's not even premium beer. It's more normal to have a 1/3 litre bottle or glass which should be 1.50 to 2.50 in most places.
