Nothing wrong with some of the Hawke range i have an Hawke endurance 30 on my 17 hmr and its a great bit of glass very crisp and very clear great at dusk and dawn.

Have a look at the bushnell here on the max of your budget doe.

thanks riflehunter - I was looking at the Hawke Endurance model - will have a look at those others as well.

It it sometimes difficult to estimate the distances in the field - do any of these scopes have the option to estimate or measure the distance?

and one more Question - should I mount the scope professionally, or are they easy to mount yourself?

Bloody laptop had answer done out for you and it crashed

Anyway to estimate distances is all down to practice or you could get a rangefinder. Walk out 100 yards and put markers at 25,50,75 and 100 yrs and practice guessing these out.

Might be worth your while getting a scope with mili dots on the recticle and working out the distance with mili dots for holdover and holdunder from your piont of zero.

Clive j did a table on bullet drop for a .22lr a while back, he will be probably be around over the next day or so and put it up :D

As for mounting the scope you could ask your gundealer to do it but to be honest its not to hard.

    I wouldn't overscope a .22lr
You don't need a 24x scope with a medium size centrefire so you will hardly need it on a .22lr
3-9x will be all you ever need.
40 or 50 Obj will be fine and in fact a 40mm will probably be better as you can get it to sit closer to the bore axis.
Consider also that you should have any vari-power scope set to the lowest setting to make sure that your field of view is as big as possible, that is if you scope with the rifle not a pair of Binos.

My personal opinion is that there is a trend these days to stick the biggest scope you can get on any rifle.
Thats fine for target work but carrying and using a massive scope on a .rifle that doesn't need it seems to be a bit of overkill IMO.
Plus you are paying bigger money for a larger lens.

    +1

    I use a 1.5 - 6 x 40, 30mm body Tasco for hunting bunnies on my CZ 452 Varmint in .22lr and a Leupold VX III 6.5 - 20 x 50, 25mm body for target shooting on same rifle.

Unless your into serious target shooting the Hawke 3 - 9 x 50 is plenty good enough for both.

HI all back home from the Hols.

Thomas I just read your OP agian and see you have a CZ 22lr. What I have on my CZ 22lr now is a Bushnell 3200 Elite 10x40 with the target turrets and mildot retical. This is a fixed zoom at x10 and the parallax/focus set at 100m but that was easy to change to the 50m that I use it at.

I got it off E bay or Airgunbbs.com SH sales section for around €120 (seen one for €399 at a dealers in Galway).

I find it a very good scope and the turrets easy to use for the different ranges the rabbits are at, 30m-120m. I also use a rangefinder to get the correct range and a drop chart for the hold over/under. I don't miss as many rabbits now .

If you fancy a drive over to me here in KK City your more than welcome to try it out and have a good look at the scope, may even get some bunny shooting in. :D
