Any imperfections on the surface will reduce the effect of a wax. Maybe getting it professionally treated might help (Paint Doctor service).

    To do it yourself:
After the car is washed clay bar it to remove imperfections - tar, bugs and the like. Meguirs do a kit for about €30. I use Meguirs Tech Wax 2.0 (there is one without the 2.0) and it gives a really deep shine. Dress the tyres too to finish off the look.

To get that wow shine you need to wash it well, clay it, polish it with a mildly abraisave polish then wax or seal it. Meguires nxt2 tech wax is good.

Collinite would be the best of the inexpensive waxes. As liquid waxes are easier to use than paste ones, the 845 IW would be a good choice. You will only get it online though, not in the shops. Your cars paint would most probably need a good polishing beforehand as well. Claying before you polish is also beneficial. It depends on how much time and effort you want to put into it. The best waxes are made to enhance and protect paint, not clean as well. You need to use other products prior to waxing. The ordinary waxes that do it all in one go, only half do the job and the results don't last for very long.

+1 on the steps and the Meguires!

Grab the clay kit from Halfords and do your best to find:

Collinite -No 476 (Super doublecoat auto wax)

    It's a really durable wax.

Another vote for Collinite 476. Shine and water throw-off lasts for ages and it'll protect the paintwork during the winter months too without need for repeated application.

I wouldn't bother with that clay kit in Halfords for e38. There is another Meguiar's clay kit which is about half the price. Without all the unnecessary extras. Put this towards a proper polish and wax.

Megs Quik Clay Kit, Autoglym SRP or Einszett Paint Polish (tone down swirls), finish off with Collinite 845 or 476s Wax. Job Done. I'd buy the 845 one if I was you. The 476s can be a pain to work with if you are not use to working with paste waxes. Apply it too thick or leave it on too long and it can be very difficult to remove. Collinite's distributor is based in Navan or you can buy online at Navancarcareireland.com.
