    Hi all,

My AK47 has real wood grips which are nearly cherry red.

I want to sand and re-varnish them.
Just anyone have a good method and what grade sandpaper and what varnish?

    Cheers

Unless you need to remove a good few layers use the finest sandaper you can find. Its time consuming but it gives the best results. Anything else leaves visible scratch marks when varnished.

As far as varnish goes, something like clear Ronseal Yachting Varnish will do the job. Get satin if you don't want too glossy a finish. The smallest tin will probably be loads and shouldn't cost more than six or seven Euros.

To remove the old varnish/possible stain, first use a medium sandpaper, followed by a polish with fine sandpaper.
