Can Sparrows be Dangerous

Alright everybody, might be in the wrong forum but seemed the only appropriate one! Just a quick question someone might be able to put my mind at ease.

Over the past few weeks there's been a nest with 4 or 5 sparrow babies (for lack of knowledge of the right term :)) in our tool shed outside. Saw it as harmless, just had to watch out for an entering or leaving sparrow mammy or sparrow daddy on the way into the shed, no hassle. Over the past few days the smaller ones have left the nest and are flying around as is normal. The problem is, anytime someone goes into the yard or near the shed, they swoop out all together and come so close to your face that you cant help but worry! If they're out already they seem to swoop down very close to your face too as if defending themselves.

So basically the question is, is there any danger in one of the little fellows hitting me or am I just being paranoid??

    Cheers in advance,
    bawnmore

No they are not dangerous at all. If they are young birds, then their ability to fly is not as well honed as the adults and a few near misses is normal, as is them hitting windows.

You will get similar when you have a decent number of any young bird in an area. I have a lot of young great tits in my garden this year and they often have near misses with me, and the young sparrows in the garden tend to huddle in one of the lower trees when hiding and if I walk close they exit as a group to escape, making one hell of a din and flying very close to me.
