    Hiya,
I have bought my car at the beginning of March this year!
Now my problem is I have the car since 3 months now and my tax is running out the end of this month and I need to get a new one. The thing is I dont think you can do that when you dont have the book for your car...
I am still not the owner of this car which is really weird. What do you reckon do I have to do?

Thanks for your help in advance!

You have to fill out a form for change of ownership of the vehicle, should have been done by the previous owner who would have had the log book...
Go in to your local tax office they will explain what you need to do

first thing i would do is entre the reg here, to see if the car was transferred or not?

    https://www.motortax.ie/PSE/start.do;jsessionid=0aa0114730d83ab9e6d909f04ac6a904d539ecc3c3e9.e38PaNaSbh0RaO0LaNmRbxyTaxeNe0?page=welcome

then i would ring the seller and ask them if they sent it or not.

after that ring vehicle registrations in Shannon and ask them what you need to do to get it into your name.

Yeah I have tried that website before and there were no changes made in the past 3 months!
I got a form you have to fill out which is called "Replacement of documents" I filled that out but someone told me that the sheet has to be filled out by the previous owner... is that right? Means, I have to send it tomorrow by post to him. I seriously need to get my car taxed though! :(

OP did you buy the car privately or from a garage?

If you bought privately then you and the previous owner both fill out the change of ownership section on the Vehicle Licensing Cert. The previous owner is then supposed to sent off the VLC to the DOE in Shannon. If you bought from a garage then the garage is supposed to send it to Shannon.

Sounds to me like it wasn't sent which means you need to chase the previous owner or the garage in question.

Also if the car is still not registered in your name then it is pointless filling out the replacement documents form as the DOE will just sent out a replacement VLC to the previous owner again.

Right okay I filled out the form and so did the previous owner.
My boyfriend got the car for me so he did all the business. The owner sent off the VLC so means I need to fill out a form for the replacement of the documents.

If you are looking for replacement of documents you would have first needed to have the vlc registered in your name which isn't the case from what i can gather.
If the vlc cert was only recently sent to shannon by previous owner then you dont need to do anything else, the vlc will be with you shortly through the post

Did you check to see if the car is registered in your name?
If it was sent then it is, but if it isn't then the vlc was never sent off contrary to what you've been told.

If it turns out it is registered to you then apply for replacement documents, if not then you're gonna have to tackle the previous owner as to why

I was in the taxation office about a week ago! I told her my registration number and she typed it in her computer. She told me the car is not in my name and she can not find the car on her system at all.
I showed her my replacement document and she said I can not get one. Then she gave me another form for declaration. You have to swear something on that I think in front of a commissioner...

This happened to me before. I had to get the chassis number verified by a main dealer and the a peace commissioner to sign and stamp the form. Then you bring the form to your tax office and they will let you tax the car there and then. They will send the forms away and you will get the log book three or four days later. It will cost 30 to 35 euro to get the chassis number verified and 15 for the peace commissioner to sign the form.

Well I got service on the car 3 times now so I have the chassis number on the invoice... So I dont need to get it verified again do I?
