S we read the news reports of North Korea to launch a missle near Hawaii around the 4th of July. They are really ramping up the threats lately, to the point where China are now telling them to behave.

Say they do launch and the missle goes off course and kills some ppl on Hawaii (less than 100) aka accident

What would the US responce be?

They will probably put Team America back together to sort them out.:D:D Personally I think the Americans should be pressurising the Chinese on this matter as they are the regional power. The Americans would have to seriously consider China in any action if and when they decide to take any.

Divided train of thought (analysis) on this one, most would have it that its posturing by Kim 1 so that Kim 3 can take the throne, Others would say they have lost the rag.

Best assume the worst and hope for the best IMHO.

    Dodgy buggers.

The minute one of their missiles heads landwards, NK will be back in the stone age.
At the moment there is an anti missile piquet of AEGIS ships from the USN and Japan, ready to bring down any strays.

Ship could test N Korea sanctions

An American warship is tailing a North Korean cargo vessel suspected of transporting weapons towards Burma.

The Kang Nam left the North Korean port of Nampo a week ago, and the destroyer USS John S McCain is following.

It sets up the first test of a new UN Security Council resolution that authorises member states to inspect North Korean vessels suspected of carrying banned weapons or materials.

The sanctions are punishment for an underground nuclear test the North carried out last month in defiance of past resolutions. It is not clear exactly what the Kang Nam has on board, but it has transported illicit goods in the past.

The North has said it would consider any interception "an act of war," with its main Rodong Sinmun newspaper warning that the Korean peninsula was on the brink of a nuclear war.

A US official said last week that the American destroyer has no orders to intercept the ship, but experts say the vessel will need to stop to refuel soon on a 4,100-mile, two-week, sail to Burma.

The resolution prohibits member states from providing such services to ships accused of bearing banned goods.

Nearby Singapore - the world's largest refuelling hub - says it will "act appropriately" if the ship docks at its port with suspicious goods on board.

At most, Singapore may refuse to let the ship refuel, said Hong Hyun-ik, an analyst at the Sejong Institute think tank in South Korea. He also speculated that the Kang Nam may not have banned cargo on board, knowing the ship could be subject to scrutiny.

In the event that the American destroyer does ask to inspect the Kang Nam and North Korea refuses, the UN resolution states the ship must be directed to a port of Pyongyang's choosing. It was not clear which port the ship would be taken to, though yesterday a Pentagon official said it was about 100 miles north of the Taiwan Strait - close to both the Chinese and Taiwanese coasts.

I'm gonna be nice and give you a chance to explain the above comment rather than make assumptions.

North Korea will always argue that they are entitled to test missiles into international waters like everybody else. It just so happens that they are in the direction of a country that they feel like provoking. This seems to be Japan mostly (and by proxy the US)

I think is a missile is launched in the direction of the US (hawaii) that the Americans should and probably will shoot it down. NK relies on the fact that Japan will not react (mainly because of history) militarily and the image is portrayed of NK being a powerful missile nation that can't be counteracted is created. Shooting down a missile will put the genie back in the box (or lamp) and will demonstrate firm action. Of course, if the US shoot down attempt fails then the N. Koreans will have a field day. I just wonder if NK send a missile towards Hawaii, would they have the resources to monitor its progress?
