Moustache woes

So, female, very sensitive skin, and for various reasons I am currently sprouting a very dark moustache against very pale skin. The various reasons are being dealt with separately, but in the meantime, can anyone recommend a moustache removal method, or a home bleach kit that would help disguise it? I'll do a patch test on any dyes, but I'm a bit worried about coming out in a rash which would be as bad as the moustache. Thanks!

It's probably painful as all hell, but unlikely to cause a rash (redness for the first day is another story I guess) - would you consider tweezing it?

That way there's nothing really touching the skin, not wax, not bleach...

I'd try threading, a bad rash will take ages to clear up if you've sensitive skin.:)

There's a few threads on this on Fashion and Appearance, like this one about facial hair http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055595497 I'd reccomend hot waxing, it'll be painful but then it'll go, wax (proper hot wax, not that chemical veet stuff) is very unlikely to irritate your skin and you'll have a long period between top ups.

Facial hair wax strips are good.

You should shave it. Don't believe the nonsense people say about it growing back thicker. My cousin had this problem, she tried everything even laser. Laser didn't work. Waxing gave her a waxing rash. Electrolysis was too painful. Now she just shaves it once a week and you would never know. Her beauty therapist told her to never do anything that stimulates hair growth such as waxing because that can make it worse.

Whatever you do...dont shave it...it will grow back thicker and stubbly
Use joleen cream. hair bleaching it invisible colour. looks very natural.

Usually the underlying problem is PCOS. I receive the following from this UK site:-

    http://www.karmahealing.com/pcos.html

    also:-

Cosmetically I alternate between bleaching and waxing.

Long term PCOS is indeed one of the "various reasons". It's usually under control, but other things are affecting it at the moment, hence the moustache. I didn't want to discuss it originally as it's a medical issue, and not suitable for discussion here.

I bought 4 different bleaching kits last night and did patch tests behind the ears. If you're interested, Boots expert hair lightener is the only one that didn't cause a reaction, and have used it on the moustache and things are looking better. No idea why that one was better than the others, as the ingredients are the same.

Storm, the problem with shaving is not that the hair grows back thicker, but that it looks thicker because you've cut off the fine tapering top off the hair - this is what makes it stubblier feeling as well.

    Thanks for all the help.

You could try tweezing it, as Xiney said, at least that way there's no chance of irritating your skin. If you're not confident in doing it yourself then go to a beautician and ask them to do it for you. Most competent beauticians will be able to do it quite quickly and with little discomfort.

There's also a cream called Bioxet that you can buy, which gradually breaks down the hair and makes it softer. My sister got it for dark upper lip hair and has been using it since March and raves about it. AFAIK, it's not the cheapest (about €20 a tub), but the tub lasts for a while. She's on her second tub after buying the first one 3 months ago. I'd treat it like a wax or hair removal cream though, and do a patch test before applying it to your face.

The odd time, I'd use a bleach product called Jolen, which I find does the job grand, although I only get the odd dark hair, so not sure how it would work out if there's a bit of hair. Again, patch test would be essential for this.

my advise to u will be totry hot wax.lycon for the removing the hair. u shouldnt be afraid, its really quick procede and takes few mins. and costs not expensive, and then u will get tee-tree oil, which soothes the skin, and makes it look nice and good for sensitive skin, and u will notice that hair will become thiner and not as stubborn with time, bec of waxing!
    so try!
    it WORKS!

Nah, bleaching it doesn´t work. As a lad, I´ve noticed girls with light coloured moustaches. If they had no make up on, maybe I wouldn´t see it. But these girls had make up on and you could see it collecting onto the moustache, like dreadlocks. I say get rid of it!
