    Hi guys,
Saw an article in New Zeland Hunter this month on fully supressed centerfires & am considering modifying a Tikka T3 in .270 to a fully supressed (Enclosed Barrell System) rifle. Can anybody advise of how this works out and an idea of how much a budget would be needed for this work. Also if there is anyone in republic who could be recommended for this - gun is factory threaded with a perfect crown.
    Thanks a million

What do you mean by fully suppressed? You'll never totally silence a centrefire - the bullet is travelling at supersonic speed with a resultant sonic "crack". No moderator/barrel/suppressor is ever goint to deal with that.

OK, you could underload something in .308 to be subsonic but what's the point? Trajectory like a rainbow.
Plenty of good sound moderators available which will do a fine job for your rifle, eventhough the .270/30.06 aren't the quietest of calibres to begin with.

Hi there, this is a good system alright but no more effective than an overbarrel mod.Theres a guy in Athlone you could talk to about this,I cant find a number for him just now but hes a genius in my opinion and this would be nothing to him.If you take a look back over older threads you should find his contact info.

    Hello
Dont know anyone who does such here but the barrel is usually cut to around 16" and usually threaded at muzzle and action, suppressor is threaded tight against flange at action end of barrel and is rigid with very little move on poa,i think they should be much more effective than standard mod but accuracy might be effected by short barrel and as Kramer said, you wont get rid of sonic crack unless you use subsonic anyway, think it's more to do with short range silent shooting
    Open to correction of course

Thats quite a job to do properly a fully enclosed barrel system. It usually also then requires specialised sub sonic ammo set up to that barrel and it's twist rate with specific bullet weight and you are then stuck with that loading forever then.

Only people I've seen do this in odd calibres.T[he 270 is a tough one to suppress properly as well ]have been in the US,and it is almost impossible ,due to ITAR,and UN arms regulations to get that done and exported outside the US.
You could try contacting in Europe Brugger&Thomet [Swiss, google the name for contacts].Or Jmsarms in the UK.Failing that contact the Nz crowd that did it and see if they have anyone in the UK that sells or does their product.
Price,...no idea, but it would be enough here in Ireland.

Its long range big game hunting - like alpine thar/chamois/wapati etc in southern alps. It uses guns own barrell but baffels on supporeser run for length to just above chamber - which has a bigger area of baffels?
Handloading there is pretty popular & gets pressures above some factory ammo. Main thing for me is I felt it would leave a better balance in gun with a shorter OA length and to me better looking and nicer for shooting without bipod. Think I am in for a hunt on the internet...

Got thisfrom the Gunworks Canterbury site based in NZ south island; They are booked up till October & NZ hunters know their guns. At NZD 600 = €275 cheaper than moderator here [plus carrige] See what you think......
The EBS (Enclosed Barrel System) Suppressor

Due to such a high demand of EBS suppressors, we cannot accept any more EBS requests until October 2009.

The EBS suppressor is the latest innovation from Gunworks Canterbury.

With all this talk of light weight suppressors, GUNWORKS have gone one step further, a suppressor that weighs nothing and adds no length to your rifle!!!!

    Impossible you say?.............read further.

We can take a Remington M700 and fit the EBS suppressor, during the process we also turn weight off the barrel between centres, and shorten to our optimium length. The end result is that our EBS Remington is the same length as the factory rifle and weighs slightly less than it did when it left the Remington factory.

We also swell the forearm of the stock before maching it for the EBS suppressor, and this retains excellant lines and forearm shape, check the pictures below to see the care and attention that goes into stock fit.

Currently our jigs and tooling is only for Rem 700 and Tikka T3s with plastic stocks. Calibres: .223 Rem. .243 Win, 7mm-08 Rem and .308 Win. No other options are available currently sorry. Delivery time is 40 days approx.

These are a very time consuming product to make, due to the extra stock work and requirement to slow turn the barrel between centres for weight reduction. The current retail is $NZ600 plus gst, it costs us money to make them, but hey, we think your worth it!

And yes, Sebastian, the suppressor does come off so you can clean the carbon off, as we know that that option is extremely exciting for some!....personally we put a bit of grease on the outside of the barrel and leave it well alone.
