Just wondering what people think of Diana?

I'm far from a Jazz expert but I like to listen to some for a change of pace.

I got my hands on Diana Krall's live in Paris and think it's very "accessible"

but I got the feeling that she would be regarded a bit poppy/cheesy by "real" jazz fans.

what do you folks think of her?

If her music appeals to you, who cares what "real" jazz fans think. ;) I am not very familiar with her music in general, but have heard some songs on You Tube which I liked. I agree that her music is very accessable, so maybe you can use it as an introduction to the wider, and varied world of jazz in general. You might like to check out our very own Honor Heffernan on You Tube.

Very accessible, I like her stuff. Perhaps what she does isn't all that interesting to the hardcore crowd but as Rigsby said, who cares, horses for courses. You could use her stuff to ease you into the more esoteric jazz or you could just keep listening to her and give Jane Monheit a go as well.

You're my kinda guy daddio! :-)

I have to say as much stick as Diana gets for being on the pop side of jazz I can't help but really like her. Some of her arrangements of standards are really, really good. "When I look into Your Eyes" is a great album apart from the title track, that is which is her own composition. But she knows how to play piano!!!
The problem with her lately is she married Elvis Costello, which isn't a bad thing in its self, but he seems to have influenced her in a much more pop style then she ever was before. So her old stuff is great, easy listening but nothing too recent.

But then you could always just take a look at this..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euLRrpABS18
    I'm shameless, I really am!! ;)

I quite like Diana Krall, but sometimes find myself wishing that she'd change the pace a bit - seems a bit samey to me, though in her defence I haven't listened to any for a while - maybe I should revisit.

Velvet Vocals - keep up the shameless self promoting - if hadn't clicked the Youtube link I wouldn't be intending to come to your next gig.
Besides which, anyone who can get use the sentence "You're my kinda guy daddio!" without sounding ridiculous deserves all the publicity she can get!
