    heeeeeeelp!

I have deleted the numbers in the height width box only to be lost now as to what should be in there so when i crop it will hold the proportions!
also what should the resolution be? im hoping to do them 10 x 8 or bigger!
    many thanks

I'm a little confused by your post.
    You're using the crop tool?
You want a constant aspect ratio?
    You want 8 x 10 (minimum) images?

300 pixels per inch (dpi) it loads for most high quality prints.

    select the crop tool
type "8 inch" in the height box and "10 inch" in the width box (for landscape). Type 300 in the resolution box.
Drag a crop box with the mouse and it's aspect ratio will be locked.

Is it possible that you simply need to hit Cancel and then open the window again? That'd be hilarious.

Hit the undo last command button (a bendy arrow going right to left) if you have altered the size unintentionally. Or close without saving.

That could be it. The boxes disappear when you drag a crop box.

What you could do is create a new document with the porportions you want.
Drag the image you want into it and Free Transform to your liking.
