Blister problem

Going to TKD classes since for about 7 months and am still having a problem with quite serious blisters developing on the soles of my feet. Thought that my feet would develop calluses after awhile but this does'nt seem to be happening. At the moment the skin blisters and burst's and it's fresh skin underneath that develops into more blisters the nxt time I go. Is quite painful and sometimes get's to the stage where I have difficulty walking.

Don't want to give up the classes so can anyone recommend a good solution or has anyone had this problem before and been able to rectify it

What kind of floor are you training on?.

(btw, unless its carpeted you'll get used to it, your feet will toughen and the blisters will stop).

Probably should have mentioned that in my op, we train on wood floors (No mats)

yup we train (not tkd) on wooden floors and spar on mats. Surprised your feet haven't toughened up at this stage. Do you wear runners a lot during the day or swim much? Both of these keep the skin soft.

Any time your at home go around with shoes and socks.

You need to let them heal before they can harden up a bit. Sounds like they're not getting that chance. Drop into your local chemist and get some compeed blister patches. Wear them at training until your foot heals.

Walking around barefoot at home etc. is good advice too.

Compeed as metioned are great. Meth spirits are used by some people it toughens up the skin, give them a wipe of it a few times a week. Alot of ultra runners use this method, it seperates the men from the boys. Drain the blister then inject a small amount of iodine into the empty blister.

It stings a tad but I have found it the best treatment for blisters and I think that I have tried most methods over the years. However, it means you need access to the required items, but most people that use that method swear by it, after swearing at it whilst doing it.

There are other ways of toughening up your skin

I used to have serious problems with this when I first started out. Everyone's right. It'll sort itself out eventually. Until then don't pull at them, it makes it worse. Blister pads are always a good idea for training but i've found it's better to let the air at them so don't put plasters on them if you can help it... Another one of the instructors in my club swears by vaseline for blisters. Helps speed up the healing progress more than toughen your soles I think. I used to use that one alot:rolleyes:
