Pinarello advice

I'm seriously thinking of buying a Pinarello FP3.
As far as I can tell, the FP3 is the best looking bike in the sub 3K price bracket, and is light enough/performant enough that I won't find it wanting.
Am I a complete Fred to go for this over other bikes which may be equally as performant, and cheaper/faster, but may not look as good?
I like to go on long/fast spins, but will never win the TdF (did WW200 in sub 8 hrs, but on the brakes most of the time during the descent off Slieve Mann)
My budget can stretch to it, but Im worried that Im just fuelling a mid life crisis (albeit cheaper than buying a Ferrari, and a lot safer than having an affair with the secretary) and need a reality check

You are absolutely in the wrong place to be dissuaded from spending a lot of money on a nice bike.

If this is why you came here, leave now and never come back. :)

I'd say go for it! If you weren't already into cycling and were buying it as a first bike with the possibility of not using it much that'd be a bit silly. But if you like to ride your bike why not make that bike the nicest bike you can afford! Dead jealous, wish i could afford a bike like that but I'm a poverty stricken student:(.

No, I came here to make the guilt pangs go away :) and I guess a reality check in case I was making a complete faux pas I didn't realise.

A Pinarello will definitely make you faster, since you'll be too ashamed of going slowly.

Just to be clear: is this a "what bike for 3k?" thread, or a "I've decided to buy a Pinarello, will people think badly of me?" thread.

I thought that was an FP2. Very pretty it is too.

More like "I've decided to buy a Pinarello, will people think badly of me?"
I'm definitly going to buy a new bike.
I'm currently riding a Giant FCR which is perfect for my commute, but a bit limiting on the longer runs, and I feel embarrassed when I over take people on road bikes heading for the Sally Gap :)
But if you've got convincing evidence to turn me in a different direction, Im still open to hard facts.

FP2 probably suits my abilities better, but FP3 is a much better bike IMO, and 100% better looking!

Go for the one you want, otherwise you'll be upgrading again as you'll always have yer eye on it. Much cheaper way in the long run than constantly upgrading, and you'll be happier.

Totally the opposite of having a fling with the secretary.... you'll be having a whale of a time at first but then it will turn to a nightmare and could end up costing you a fortune ..... Feck it, when you look at it like that, you should really be thinking of getting the Pinarello Prince, bloody bargain by comparison !! :D

What does your secretary look like is the most obvious question ?

Would you not think of a Cervelo frame ?

The only time I'd try to dissuade someone from buying a high-end bike would be if they were inexperienced and likely not to get something that a. suited them or b. they'd notice the difference from. But it sounds like you've already got a lot of riding under your belt. So if you can afford it, why not? Buying a bike you love just makes you want to ride the hell out of it. And that's not a bad thing.

Lots of choice at that price point. Some other ideas:

    Bianchi 928 Mono-Q
    Cinelli The Machine
    Cinelli Estrada
    Colnago CLX
    De Rosa Avant SL
    Look 585 VHM
    Ridley Excalibur
    Wilier Izoard

Do it - you know you want to!!!

I saved for years for my Prince and it makes me smile every time I take it out for a spin. It's a way better bike than I am rider, but it is inspiring to ride and awesome to look at!;)

When I decided to buy a new bike I was budgeting around a grand for something to spin around on, then I saw a few Pinarellos and new right away I wanted one.

I looked at the FP2 & FP3, the latter being a tad expensive considering my original budget combined with the fact it was years since I sat on a bike, however, I ended up buying an FP2 and spending €800 extra on a new set of wheels and a grand or more on kit and still spending. You'll spend the cash one way or another.

If you like it and the budget will stretch then get it, you wont regret it.

Sounds like they're the ones who should feel embarrassed.
