Going un reg for this one.Well i,ll start off by saying im going on 22 and unemployed, but i start a course in the coming weeks which is ok i guess ... but my problems are endless.

About a year ago i start smoking Drugs(weed cannabis) full on... like before that i was a very Occasional smoker but for the past year i'v been flat out smoking ,and sometimes id use some coke or e's on the weekend. But Recently iv started to notice its really taking its toll on me....
-For the past few months iv been very short tempered id lose it over anything silly, id feel depressed most days, and would wake up thinking somedays why the hell am i here.My family are starting to get really sick of me..... Most days they wouldn even talk to me.

I really wanna give it all up but i dono how,its not as easy as it seems.... and im afraid my moods will get worse if im not smoking and i dont want that to happen...

what will i do.........?Should i see someone? Does this happen to everyone who uses drugs?

Im gonna go unreg myself for this..im a chronic smoker myself..late 20s..used to do everthing else as well..dude, save yourself a few years of pain and grief..its not worth it..it sounds like the beginnings of drug induced psychosis..its only gonna get worse..dont find yourself like me..alone..just a bit of a freak..being stoned all the time..its not pretty really..Listen to the 2nd poster..NA works for a lot of people..after two weeks you'll feel way better..just watch the moods and stuff..i really should listen to my own advice..

I myself would not be happy using NA due to their religious etho's. Their literature support the notion of a higher power which renders you powerless over your addiction (Your addiction is in the hands of God, not yours, and only through God may you get past it) may not appeal to all url=http://www.na.org/admin/include/spaw2/uploads/pdf/litfiles/us_english/misc/How%20it%20Works.pdf]pdf[/url

I would definitely recommend talking to your local GP or if you have any close family or friends who would be willing to help you overcome this. By already realising and discovering you have a problem and wanting to get better from it shows just how strong you can be. Without you willing to come clean you shall never be. Talk to friends, family and doctors as all will be able to provide support and help.

While i have some issues with 12 step programmes don't let the apparent references to god put you off. The higher power you choose can be whatever is relevant to you and does not need to be god. I would certainly suggest going to some meetings and seeing how you feel about them. It's often about finding one you are comfortable in. It's about finding what works for each individual. I know many people who have used 12 step programmes very successfully but who are not religious and have no belief in god.

Best of luck, as already mentioned you have made a big step in realising you want to make some changes.

The 'higher power' theory they encourage is not necessarily God. Many atheists have used the programme successfully. It's to reinforce the feeling of not going through your problem alone/for no reason. I have heard of family members/friends being used as a 'higher power', i.e. someone who you could always turn to for help and fortitude. I've even heard of people using material things like holidays as their higher power, i.e. an alcoholic who had always wanted to travel but never had, saved the money he had spent on drink and did a year long round the world trip later. His higher power involved postcards, travel books, travel programmes etc.

I smoked heavily from the moment I woke up until I went asleep for almost a year and by the end of it I could hardly leave my house. I mean I was literally afraid of going outside, couldn't deal with people/cars anything like that.

I quit smoking and it was really hard. For the first few days you'll miss the feeling and when I drank I'd always love a spliff which was a killer. After a while though I started smoking again but just the odd time. I might smoke 3-4 times a year now and that's fine. It's not a very social drug, and will really mess with your head after a while.

After a few months your drug contacts will probably start to fade and it will be harder for you to get some, which helps alot because you'll feel like you really want some and if you can't get it you'll end up having a good time anyway and you'll realise that you don't need to smoke so much.

Listen to the third poster in this thread. You only have one brain, and you can mess it up alot faster than you think.

quick edit: I personally wouldn't bother with NA unless you really need it. I was properly psychologically addicted to the drug but it's not a physical addiction. You just need a bit of will power and I can guarantee that after a week or two (It takes that long to start feeling normal with the amount of weed built up in your system) you'll feel fresh as a daisy and will be wondering why you wasted so much time high.

I'd rather be religious than a druggie. i dunno, this whole site is full of militant atheists
